{"id":218761,"date":"2025-09-11T17:54:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T17:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/218761\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T17:54:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T17:54:09","slug":"latinx-arts-and-culture-kick-off-hispanic-heritage-month-in-san-diego","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/218761\/","title":{"rendered":"Latinx Arts and Culture Kick Off Hispanic Heritage Month in San Diego"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>San Diego will open Hispanic Heritage Month with\u00a0An Evening of Latinx Creativity, Culture &amp; Community, a free family-friendly celebration taking place on Sunday, September 14, from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Digital Gym Cinema and UC San Diego Park &amp; Market Galleries.<\/p>\n<p>Organized by UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies, Digital Gym Cinema, La Onda Arte Latino, the Consulate of Mexico in San Diego, and Fundaci\u00f3n Sacal, the event will highlight cross-border artistic voices from the San Diego\u2013Tijuana region and beyond. \u201cThis is about building bridges through art, music, and film while showcasing the diversity of Latinx creativity,\u201d said Andy Gonzalez, independent curator with La Onda Arte Latino.<\/p>\n<p>The day features the debut of a sculptural exhibition by renowned Mexican artist Jos\u00e9 Sacal, presented in collaboration with Fundaci\u00f3n Sacal. Representatives of the Mexican Consulate in San Diego will offer reflections honoring Sacal\u2019s legacy and the importance of binational artistic exchange.<\/p>\n<p>On the film side, Digital Gym Cinema will host the San Diego premiere of\u00a0Hola Frida!\u00a0(2025), directed by Andr\u00e9 Kadi and Karine V\u00e9zina. The film offers a fresh perspective on the early years of Frida Kahlo, exploring her childhood, illness, and imaginative spirit. As part of the San Diego Latino Film Festival\u2019s Arte Latino program, additional screenings will showcase independent films from Latin America and U.S. Latinx filmmakers.<\/p>\n<p>A group art exhibition curated by Gonzalez will bring together more than a dozen artists from Mexico, Peru, Cuba, and Colombia, with artists present for informal talks and meet-and-greets. Live music and DJ sets will run throughout the day, alongside cultural participation from the Houses of Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Puerto Rico based in Balboa Park.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is meant to be more than an opening event. It\u2019s a celebration of community, creativity, and heritage,\u201d said a spokesperson for Digital Gym Cinema.<\/p>\n<p>The event is free and open to the public.
