{"id":218838,"date":"2025-09-11T18:35:19","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T18:35:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/218838\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T18:35:19","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T18:35:19","slug":"ai-books-how-to-tell-a-book-wasnt-written-by-a-human-author","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/218838\/","title":{"rendered":"AI books: How to tell a book wasn\u2019t written by a human author"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"BykrjImGEgsVna\" style=\"display:none\">The Authors Guild in the United States said online marketplaces were becoming inundated with entirely AI-generated books that looked and read as if they were written by humans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BykrjImGEgsVna\" style=\"display:none\">Tauranga Libraries manager Joanna Thomas said there were many tell-tale signs a book may have been written by AI.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BykrjImGEgsVna\" style=\"display:none\">These included \u201cauthor names that do not appear elsewhere or seem auto-generated\u201d and \u201cauthors that produce multiple books in a short time\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BykrjImGEgsVna\" style=\"display:none\">Other factors included \u201clow quality production, content that is repetitive and lacks depth or coherence, and overly generic titles\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BykrjImGEgsVna\" style=\"display:none\">A spokesperson for Dunedin Public Libraries said AI-generated work had been easy to identify but was becoming harder to spot as technology evolved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BykrjImGEgsVna\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cClues to an AI-generated item can include the overall quality of the item and whether it is an AI-generated summary of an original non-fiction work,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BykrjImGEgsVna\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cAuthors who publish a lot of work at once, or in very quick succession, which can indicate possible AI assistance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"BykrjImGEgsVna\" style=\"display:none\">Earlier this year, the US Authors Guild launched a Human-Authored Initiative to certify that books were written by humans, with AI only being used for spell-checking and research.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BykrjImGEgsVna\" style=\"display:none\">Guild chief executive Mary Rasenberger said the initiative wasn\u2019t about rejecting technology, but allowing readers to enjoy the \u201cuniquely human elements of storytelling\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BykrjImGEgsVna\" style=\"display:none\">She said the certification system \u201cconnotes that the literary expression itself, with the unique human voice that every author brings to their writing, emanated from the human intellect\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"BykrjImGEgsVna\" style=\"display:none\"><b>Michael Sergel is Newstalk ZB\u2019s business reporter, covering the daily life of business and the business of daily life.
