{"id":218981,"date":"2025-09-11T19:51:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T19:51:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/218981\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T19:51:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T19:51:11","slug":"dealers-hannah-hoffman-and-bridget-donahue-merge-galleries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/218981\/","title":{"rendered":"Dealers Hannah Hoffman and Bridget Donahue Merge Galleries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTwo taste-making dealers\u2014one based in New York, the other in Los Angeles\u2014will merge their galleries, forming a new operation with spaces in both of those cities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/bridget-donahue\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bridget-donahue\" data-tag=\"bridget-donahue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bridget Donahue<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/hannah-hoffman\/\" id=\"auto-tag_hannah-hoffman\" data-tag=\"hannah-hoffman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hannah Hoffman<\/a> will combine their eponymous enterprises in New York and LA, respectively, to create <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/hoffman-donahue\/\" id=\"auto-tag_hoffman-donahue\" data-tag=\"hoffman-donahue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hoffman Donahue<\/a>. The newly formed gallery\u2019s 43-person roster boasts a range of celebrated artists, from Puppies Puppies to Lynn Hershman Leeson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBoth dealers are known for spinning rising talents into stars. Donahue\u2019s gallery, opened in New York\u2019s Chinatown neighborhood in 2015, was among the first to offer solo shows to artists such as Martine Syms and Jessi Reaves, both of whom now show widely in institutions. Through years of volatility across the wider gallery landscape, we\u2019ve each remained steady, avoiding the extremes of market highs and lows\u2014which means so much of our shared potential still lies ahead,\u201d the two dealers said in a joint statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThey seemed to allude to the consolidation and gallery closures afflicting the market now, with enterprises such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/art-news\/news\/tim-blum-unplugs-from-the-gallery-machine-1234746678\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blum<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/art-news\/news\/clearing-gallery-closes-1234749090\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clearing<\/a> having shuttered earlier this year. While many have said these developments signal a downturn, some market experts have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/art-news\/news\/art-market-reporting-doom-coverage-1234751514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rebutted these claims<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHoffman and Donahue spoke of a changed market landscape and a desire to innovate in spite of it. \u201cWe both came up in the early 2000s, when galleries looked and operated differently\u2014when even a \u2018big gallery\u2019 could still feel personal\u2014and we carry that perspective forward,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe gallery\u2019s announcement also revealed that Hoffman and Donahue were establishing \u201can arm of the gallery dedicated to commercial and cross-disciplinary projects.\u201d The release alluded to the various art-and-fashion crossovers undertaken by artists represented by the gallery\u2014Talia Chetrit, for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/art-news\/news\/lorde-virgin-vinyl-photograph-talia-chetrit-1234746362\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">memorably photographed Lorde<\/a> for the singer\u2019s new album this past summer\u2014and teased future collaborations in that vein.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHoffman Donahue said the merger would be a \u201cfull programmatic integration unfolding through 2026.\u201d A booth at Art Basel Paris will mark the merged gallery\u2019s official debut.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIt\u2019s not the first time Hoffman and Donahue have worked together. Previously, they were both employed alongside one another at Gavin Brown\u2019s Enterprise, a beloved New York gallery that closed when its namesake dealer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/art-news\/market\/gavin-brown-gladstone-gallery-profile-1234579713\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">joined Gladstone Gallery<\/a> in 2020.
