{"id":219605,"date":"2025-09-12T01:23:16","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T01:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/219605\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T01:23:16","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T01:23:16","slug":"qatar-pm-israels-leaders-do-not-care-about-hostages-in-gaza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/219605\/","title":{"rendered":"Qatar PM: Israel&#8217;s leaders &#8216;do not care&#8217; about hostages in Gaza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UNITED NATIONS (AP) \u2014 Qatar\u2019s prime minister accused Israel of ignoring the hostages in the Gaza Strip when it <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/israel-palestinians-hamas-war-qatar-strike-what-to-know-cdef05446fdc7767cf6656baedb4c154\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">attacked Hamas leaders in Doha<\/a>, but he vowed Thursday not to abandon efforts to end the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/israel-hamas-war\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">nearly two-year war<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani told an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council that Israel went \u201cbeyond any borders, any limitations\u201d with the strike in Qatar\u2019s capital this week, violating his country\u2019s sovereignty and <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/israel-hamas-war-qatar-strike-uae-saudi-politics-e72213f436ce2021ff284c586de79e42\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">threatening regional peace<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIsrael is trying to rearrange the region by force,\u201d he said. But \u201cwe will continue our humanitarian and diplomatic role without any hesitation in order to stop the bloodshed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Israel\u2019s airstrike <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/qatar-explosion-doha-e319dd51b170161372442831a8023db5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">killed at least six people<\/a> as Hamas leaders gathered to consider a U.S. <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/israel-palestinians-hamas-war-news-09-08-2025-e91a0c8d415b489d5a8da42501cfc366\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">proposal for a ceasefire<\/a> in Gaza. It risked upending negotiations that have been mediated by Qatar, Egypt and the United States and intensified Israel\u2019s <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/europe-israel-hamas-war-gaza-e4062cffa9585790061105236a93d8e5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">global isolation<\/a>, including a <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/israel-hamas-war-qatar-strike-uae-saudi-politics-e72213f436ce2021ff284c586de79e42\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">condemnation of the strike<\/a> from the U.N. Security Council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExtremists that rule Israel today do not care about the hostages \u2014 otherwise, how do we justify the timing of this attack?\u201d Sheikh Mohammed said. He told CNN late Wednesday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was directly to blame for killing \u201cany hope for those hostages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In response, Israeli Ambassador to the U.N. Danny Danon said that \u201chistory will not be kind to accomplices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEither Qatar condemns Hamas, expels Hamas, and brings Hamas to justice. Or Israel will,\u201d Danon said.<\/p>\n<p>Qatar\u2019s diplomatic push<\/p>\n<p>Before Sheikh Mohammed spoke to the 15-member council, every country \u2014 except for the U.S. \u2014 laid the blame for the attack and larger regional conflicts on Israel, and echoed doubts about the country\u2019s seriousness in securing the return of its hostages. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is evident that Israel, the occupying power, is bent on doing everything to undermine and blow up every possibility of peace,\u201d Pakistani Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said. \u201cIt also raises serious questions whether the return of hostages was indeed a priority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Acting U.S. Ambassador Dorothy Shea said, \u201cIt is inappropriate for any member to use this to question Israel\u2019s commitment to bringing their hostages home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the start of the session, Rosemary DiCarlo, the U.N.\u2019s political chief, said Israel\u2019s attack \u201cshocked the world\u201d and \u201cpotentially opens a new and perilous chapter\u201d in the war in Gaza. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was an alarming escalation, especially since it targeted individuals who were reportedly gathered to discuss the latest U.S. proposal for a ceasefire and hostage release deal in Gaza,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p>Sheikh Mohammed said his country fully supports \u201cmediation and the peaceful settlement of disputes, and Qatar\u2019s role is being appreciated worldwide.\u201d He gave no indication of any next steps.<\/p>\n<p>Danon said Israel\u2019s \u201cfight is with Hamas, not with the people of Gaza, nor with the state of Qatar.\u201d He asserted Israel had the right to track down those responsible for the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the U.N. visit, Sheikh Mohammed planned to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House on Friday, according to the State Department. Qatar also said it was organizing an Arab-Islamic summit next week in Doha to discuss the attack. <\/p>\n<p>US joins condemnation of Doha attack, but no mention of Israel<\/p>\n<p>The Security Council earlier issued a joint statement expressing \u201cdeep concern\u201d without mentioning Israel by name and emphasizing \u201cde-escalation.\u201d Approved by the 15-member council, including the U.S., the statement also conveyed its solidarity with Qatar and the \u201cvital role\u201d it\u2019s played in mediating peace efforts in recent years. <\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump has <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/israel-qatar-trump-allies-strike-11ca78599f7da4dd135d020dc8b7cc04\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">walked a delicate line<\/a> between two major allies following the Israeli attack, saying the unilateral action \u201cdid not advance Israel or America\u2019s goals.\u201d He has said he\u2019s \u201cnot thrilled about it\u201d but also suggested that \u201cthis unfortunate incident could serve as an opportunity for peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Qatar has hosted Hamas\u2019 political leadership for years in Doha, in part over a request by the U.S. to encourage negotiations to end the war that started with Hamas\u2019 attack on Israel. <\/p>\n<p>During the Security Council session, Shea repeated Trump\u2019s sentiments and defended Israel\u2019s decision to target Hamas leaders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEliminating Hamas, which has profited off of the misery of those living in Gaza, is a worthy goal,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum said Israel\u2019s attack constituted a \u201cderailment of negotiations efforts\u201d and showed that Netanyahu and his backers \u201crefuse to reach a deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"Image\" alt=\"Buildings that were destroyed during the Israeli ground and air operations stand in the northern Gaza Strip as seen from southern Israel, Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025. The militant group, which has sometimes only confirmed the assassination of its leaders months later, offered no immediate proof that senior figures had survived.<\/p>\n<p>Funerals for the five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer who were killed in the attack were held Thursday. Qatar\u2019s ruling emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, attended the service.<\/p>\n<p>A warning from the UAE<\/p>\n<p>The United Arab Emirates said Thursday that more \u201cprovocative and hostile rhetoric\u201d from Israel undermines stability and \u201cpushes the region towards extremely dangerous trajectories.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The UAE\u2019s Foreign Ministry said an aggression against any of the six member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council \u2014 which includes Qatar \u2014 \u201cconstitutes an attack on the collective Gulf security framework.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The country, which also blocked Israeli firms from participating in the Dubai Air Show in November, was part of the 2020 Abraham Accords, in which it and three other Arab nations forged ties with Israel. <\/p>\n<p>Palestinians are fleeing Gaza City<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, thousands of Palestinians continued to flee Gaza City ahead of Israel\u2019s impending offensive there. The numbers have grown in recent days, though many have refused to leave, saying they no longer have the strength or money to relocate.<\/p>\n<p>The operation is aimed at taking over the largest Palestinian city, already devastated from earlier raids and <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/gaza-famine-hunger-israel-ceasefire-a5f88e20db2a5c4f754117de9bdada69\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">experiencing famine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Israel has denied there is starvation in Gaza, even after experts last month announced a famine in Gaza City. It says it has allowed enough humanitarian aid in and accuses Hamas of diverting it.
