{"id":219653,"date":"2025-09-12T01:48:31","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T01:48:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/219653\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T01:48:31","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T01:48:31","slug":"eric-adams-job-prospects-in-trump-admin-all-but-dead-as-nyc-mayoral-race-nears-sources-say-its-a-mess","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/219653\/","title":{"rendered":"Eric Adams&#8217; job prospects in Trump admin all but dead as NYC mayoral race nears, sources say: &#8216;It&#8217;s a mess&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eric Adams\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/03\/us-news\/mayor-eric-adams-white-house-in-talks-over-potential-trump-admin-job-sources\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">job prospects in Donald Trump\u2019s administration<\/a> are seemingly dead in the water, with the president only appearing willing to poach the Big Apple mayor if GOP mayoral nominee Curtis Sliwa comes along, insiders told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>The fading chances came as speculation swirled <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/09\/us-news\/trump-mayor-eric-adams-could-meet-at-yankee-stadium-this-week-for-high-stakes-job-talks-sources\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">over whether Adams would score a sit-down <\/a>with Trump at Yankee Stadium during Thursday night\u2019s game to directly suss out the president\u2019s thinking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only way he\u2019ll offer Adams a gig would be if both (the mayor and Sliwa) got out of the race,\u201d said a source with knowledge of Trump\u2019s inner circle\u2019s thinking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdams\u2019 stock is too low to offer him anything. Adams wants to meet more with Trump than Trump needs to meet with him,\u201d the source said. \u201cEvery day that goes by he becomes less desirable to hire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Eric Adams\u2019 prospects of getting a job in President Trump\u2019s administration have dimmed, sources said. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The White House\u2019s unprecedented interjection into New York City\u2019s mayoral race aims to thwart socialist frontrunner Zohran Mamdani\u2019s election by making it a one-on-one contest with former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the socialist frontrunner\u2019s most formidable opponent.<\/p>\n<p>But Adams is also no longer actively considering a Trump-linked job, sources said \u2014 an incentive that would have seen him drop his long-shot re-election bid.<\/p>\n<p>He is listening to any job offer floated by Trump\u2019s allies, but sees little advantage of taking one and resigning before the November election, one source said.<\/p>\n<p>Adams also fielding at least one private sector job offer to work at Related Companies, which is run by <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/09\/us-news\/cuomo-campaign-makes-last-ditch-effort-to-breathe-life-into-nyc-mayoral-campaign-with-staff-shakeup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cuomo backer Jeff Blau<\/a> \u2014 also with the aim of getting him to drop out.<\/p>\n<p>Zohran Mamdani\u2019s ascendence has prompted an unprecedented push by Trump to thin the mayoral race. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s the difference between doing it now and Jan. 1?\u201d the source said, describing Adams\u2019 thinking. \u201cHe\u2019s going to be on the ballot anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president, during a Tuesday appearance on \u201cSid and Friends in the Morning,\u201d acknowledged that even if the push worked, Cuomo would still be a \u201clong shot\u201d as polls show Mamdani winning in a head-to-head contest.<\/p>\n<p>He then cast doubt that Adams \u2014 whom he said didn\u2019t know well, despite taking credit for helping with the \u201cproblem\u201d of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/02\/us-news\/nyc-mayor-eric-adams-historic-corruption-case-dismissed-as-judge-sides-with-trump-doj\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hizzoner\u2019s federal corruption indictment<\/a> \u2014 would drop out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI read where he has no intention of getting out,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCuomo I do know, but I would say this anybody is better than you know what\u2026 We\u2019re going to have a communist mayor in New York.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adams has publicly insisted that he\u2019s staying in the race, but his campaign is secretly pulling together a poll to gauge his chances \u2014 with an eye toward potentially withdrawing next month, according to sources.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has signaled he thinks Andrew Cuomo has the best chance to beat Mamdani. ZUMAPRESS.com \/ MEGA<\/p>\n<p>The mayor said as much to private roundtable of city leaders this week, NBC4 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/news\/politics\/mayor-adams-consider-leaving-mayor-race-sources\/6389711\/?ref=hellgatenyc.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reported<\/a> \u2014 an assessment that his campaign spokesman Todd Shapiro denied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe never alluded to leaving the race,\u201d Shapiro said. \u201cHe clearly indicated that he will be spending resources to get his message out and will then look at his own independent poll to make a decision. Nothing he said should give any indication that he has abandoned the race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sliwa has also <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/04\/us-news\/gop-nominee-curtis-sliwa-wont-bow-to-pressure-to-drop-out-of-nyc-mayoral-race-as-he-rakes-in-3-4m-in-campaign-funds\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">refused to drop out<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Adams <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/10\/us-news\/zohran-mamdani-with-15-point-lead-over-andrew-cuomo-in-four-way-race-for-nyc-mayor-poll\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">polled at a putrid 7%<\/a> in a recent Emerson College\/PIX11\/The Hill survey. Mamdani captured 43% from voters, compared to 28% for Cuomo and 10% for Sliwa.<\/p>\n<p>The prospect of a Trump administration landing spot such as an <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/05\/us-news\/top-trump-adviser-floats-eric-adams-for-saudi-arabia-ambassadorship-to-quiet-busy-ny-mayoral-field-give-cuomo-shot-to-beat-mamdani\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ambassadorship to Saudi Arabia<\/a> for Adams mostly arose from the meddling of national political operatives concerned that the mayor\u2019s continued presence in the mayoral race would guarantee Mamdani\u2019s ascension to City Hall, the sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Operatives such as Steve Witkoff, the president\u2019s special envoy to the Middle East, parachuted into the race with a Hail Mary plan to engineer a head-to-head race between Mamdani and Cuomo, sources said.<\/p>\n<p>GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa refuses to drop out.
