{"id":219812,"date":"2025-09-12T03:12:21","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T03:12:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/219812\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T03:12:21","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T03:12:21","slug":"serena-williams-former-coach-reveals-what-coco-gauff-can-learn-from-the-atp-tour-to-become-world-number-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/219812\/","title":{"rendered":"Serena Williams&#8217; former coach reveals what Coco Gauff can learn from the ATP Tour to become world number one"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Coco Gauff has a lot to think about after a relatively disappointing US Open swing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/class-coco-gauff-praised-for-what-she-said-despite-losing-to-naomi-osaka-at-the-us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gauff lost to Naomi Osaka in the fourth round of the US Open<\/a>, continuing her relatively poor run of form since winning her second major title at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/french-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roland Garros<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There has been a lot of talk about the American\u2019s serve, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/coco-gauff-claimed-to-have-made-a-big-mistake-before-this-years-us-open-i-dont-understand-what-their-thinking-was\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gauff being told she made a mistake even before the US Open<\/a> started.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/opinion\/coco-gauff-faces-one-of-the-most-important-moments-in-her-career-so-far-away-from-the-cameras\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gauff now steps away from the match court<\/a> for a few weeks, she has been told what she could learn from players on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ATP Tour<\/a> that could really help.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"640\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-2231847866-1024x640.jpg\" alt=\"Coco Gauff of the United States reacts to defeating Donna Vekic of Croatia in the second round on Day 5 of the US Open at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.\" \/>Photo by Robert Prange\/Getty ImagesRick Macci tells Coco Gauff what she can learn from the ATP Tour<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/andy-roddick-has-a-prediction-about-whats-going-to-happen-to-coco-gauffs-serve-in-future\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gauff\u2019s serve is a big topic of debate<\/a>, and is often pointed to as the shot that could be preventing her from having more success.<\/p>\n<p>However, the forehand has also caused her troubles in recent times, including in her latest match against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/naomi-osaka\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Osaka<\/a> where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/coco-gauff\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gauff<\/a> hit 20 forehand unforced errors.<\/p>\n<p>Now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/rick-macci\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rick Macci<\/a>, who is the former coach of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/serena-williams\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Serena<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/venus-williams\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Venus Williams<\/a>, has given Gauff some advice that he thinks could help her become world number one.<\/p>\n<p>The 70-year-old, who has also worked with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/maria-sharapova\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maria Sharapova<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/andy-roddick\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andy Roddick<\/a> and Jennifer Capriati, believes Gauff could benefit from making her forehand more compact and explosive, which Macci claims is like what ATP players have.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), \u201cBecause Coco fights and can fly she never says good bye. Her serve will become her best shot and she contends again for the number one spot.
