{"id":220082,"date":"2025-09-12T05:37:28","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T05:37:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/220082\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T05:37:28","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T05:37:28","slug":"nyc-seeks-gov-tech-suppliers-for-workflow-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/220082\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC Seeks Gov Tech Suppliers for Workflow Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                                    New York City needs some better workflow technology for its <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/site\/buildings\/index.page\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Department of Buildings<\/a> \u2014 and local officials are putting out a call for ideas.<\/p>\n<p>The agency and the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/partnershipfundnyc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Partnership Fund for New York City<\/a> \u2014 a nonprofit advocacy group that includes CEOs and other executives \u2014 have opened applications for the second annual technology competition via the public-private Buildings Tech Lab initiative.<\/p>\n<p>The competition focuses on finding and testing tools that can support the Department of Buildings&#8217; \u201cwork as the primary regulator of real estate and construction in New York City,\u201d <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/buildingstechlab.nyc\/news\/buildings-tech-lab-seeks-next-generation-tech-to-modernize-and-optimize-regulation-of-new-york-city-s-1-1-million-buildings\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s contest focuses on what the statement called \u201ctransformative technologies to modernize internal workflows and improve workforce efficiency\u201d for the department, responsible for some 1.1 million buildings in the city.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/buildingstechlab.nyc\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Applications are due by Oct. 24<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Before that, the building department will hold a <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/luma.com\/un8wyixj\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">virtual information session<\/a> about the program on Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s challenge calls for better technology around \u201cworkflow modernization\u201d \u2014 for instance, how to improve case tracking, code updates and internal agency workflows \u2014 along with &#8220;workforce optimization\u201d \u2014 that is, providing better tools for building inspectors and other agency employees.<\/p>\n<p>Companies that win acceptance into the challenge will take part in a pilot lasting six months, and which has two phases.<\/p>\n<p>The first phase involves \u201cvalidating the technology\u201d in the agency\u2019s \u201coperational environment,\u201d according to the statement.<\/p>\n<p>The second phase brings cost and scalability evaluations. Along the way, agency staff will provide feedback as the startups work to demonstrate \u201cboth the effectiveness and the value of their solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The news of the new challenge comes as Buildings Tech Lab announces what it calls \u201cproof of concept\u201d results from <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/buildingstechlab.nyc\/proof-of-concept-results-2025\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">last year\u2019s inaugural cohort<\/a>. They focused on <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/buildingstechlab.nyc\/challenges\/process-management\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">process management<\/a> and <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/buildingstechlab.nyc\/challenges\/data-utilization\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">data utilization<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Eight participating companies emerged from 92 applications, with a process that included 28 public-sector evaluators.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter seeing firsthand how the impressive technologies of the first cohort of companies could boost our enforcement operations, cut wait times and improve our service for New Yorkers, we were more than excited to run it back with a second annual innovation competition,\u201d said Buildings Commissioner Jimmy Oddo in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the only time a big New York City agency and the Partnership Fund have turned to suppliers of government technology for help improving operations via a contest.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/transitinnovation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Transit Tech Lab<\/a> \u2014 backed by Metropolitan Transportation Authority \u2014 named the finalists for its seventh annual challenge cycle.
