{"id":220484,"date":"2025-09-12T09:14:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T09:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/220484\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T09:14:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T09:14:11","slug":"pa-cities-rank-poorly-in-quality-of-life-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/220484\/","title":{"rendered":"Pa. cities rank poorly in \u2018quality of life\u2019 study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"37KVWFVX7JHWNEANRMGRVZAK4U\">When it comes to choosing a place to live, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pennlive.com\/news\/2024\/07\/pennsylvania-city-one-of-the-worst-for-quality-of-life-report.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">quality of life <\/a>is a top consideration for many.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"JG3TAL3UFZDZVE43S6NCW2SQGI\">Unfortunately, it appears that several cities<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pennlive.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> in Pennsylvania<\/a> don\u2019t do so hot in this regard. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DNBMTWSGYVBTBLCRHX6PBQ277A\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lawnstarter.com\/blog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">LawnStarter<\/a> recently published a study titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lawnstarter.com\/blog\/studies\/best-quality-of-life\/#rankings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">2025\u2019s Leading Cities for Quality of Life<\/a>.\u201d In it, researchers graded the 500 biggest U.S. cities across 13 main categories including \u201cEconomic Stability;\u201d \u201cHealthcare Access;\u201d \u201cSafety;\u201d and \u201cAir &amp; Water Quality.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RAL7MVBDIJFODBFZMKVZU7TPHM\">When all was said and done, seven cities in the Keystone State made it onto the final list, all of which landed in pretty poor spots: Bethlehem (246th overall); Pittsburgh (303rd); Allentown (386th); Scranton (401st); Philadelphia (436th); Erie (440th); and Reading (469th). Philadelphia in particular was noted for having the fourth highest food insecurity rate in the country at 17.6 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SIE5NSJJUZEOHA3TKK7YWXDTLU\">Then again, they all technically did better than Flint, Michigan, which came in dead last. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"UWZFOGFFVFDXLEWGOUMIALBSY4\">On the other hand, the top three cities with the best quality of life were found to be Plymouth, Minnesota in third; Woodbury, Minnesota in second; and Newton, Massachusetts in first. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZY7KGJ2Q6FETLMNJT22DCEZHFU\">\u201cBecause of life should be for all people, I would rate the most important factor as housing costs relative to wages,\u201d said Mark D. Bjelland, Ph.D., professor of geography at Calvin University. \u201cBecause I value urbanism, a second factor would be the walkability and density of restaurants, shops, and services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"H2SQKB7YIBEVLF42G57JNUZI7U\">\u201cA city\u2019s walk score or transit score captures this pretty well. Third, parks and trails are essential to a high quality of life.
