But it wasn&#8217;t. It was an attempt to test the mechanisms of action within NATO and our ability to respond.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Other European capitals and the European Union also labelled the raid a Russian test of the NATO alliance&#8217;s resolve in the face of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/ukraine-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Russia&#8217;s ongoing war in Ukraine<\/a>, but Mr. Trump suggested otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It could have been a mistake,&#8221; he told journalists late Thursday when asked about the incident. A day earlier, Mr. Trump issued a brief reaction to the incident, saying on his Truth Social platform: &#8220;What&#8217;s with Russia violating Poland&#8217;s airspace with drones? Here we go!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The White House did not offer any clarification of Mr. Trump&#8217;s remarks.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/usambnato\/status\/1965744756950204740?s=46\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0in a social media post that the U.S. stood &#8220;by our NATO Allies in the face of these airspace violations and will defend every inch of NATO territory.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/europe-nato-nations-2025-2070930821.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"European member states of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization).
