{"id":220877,"date":"2025-09-12T12:44:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T12:44:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/220877\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T12:44:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T12:44:09","slug":"howard-lutnick-moves-the-goalposts-after-bad-news-for-trump-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/220877\/","title":{"rendered":"Howard Lutnick Moves the Goalposts After Bad News for Trump Economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Howard Lutnick tried to defend President Trump\u2019s economic plan after damning data revealed a rise in inflation and jobless claims. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Commerce Secretary expressed confidence that the economy will start booming in 2026 and reach \u201cfull fire\u201d in 2027 after the Labor Department reported Thursday that consumer prices rose for the fourth month in a row to 2.9 percent, and the number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits hit 263,000 last week, the highest in almost four years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Lutnick told CNBC\u2019s Squawk on the Street that a \u201chuge amount of construction jobs\u201d will be generated by a push to bring factories onshore to escape the Trump administration\u2019s sky-high tariffs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cSo I would say the first quarter of next year will be the best quarter of construction jobs this country\u2019s ever seen,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s going to roll all the way through \u201926, so I think you\u2019re going to see GDP growth next year over 4 percent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Lutnick predicted that Americans who were \u201csitting on the sidelines because they just don\u2019t want to be in the marketing department of this or that company\u201d are going to rejoin the workforce to fill some 5 million openings for roles that require technical training.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GCF5UJKZTJCWHNNSKM5555YWXU.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/>Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick was optimistic about the economy in an interview with CNBC. CNBC <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThese people are going to be the arms and legs of the 5 million construction workers and the 5 million factory workers that are coming to America,\u201d he said. \u201cYou\u2019re going to see it start in \u201926 and it\u2019s going to be full fire in \u201927.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Commerce Secretary also waved off concerns that the Trump administration\u2019s hardline immigration policies could lead to a shortage of workers, arguing that vocational schools could help fill that gap.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIf Harvard settles with Donald Trump, you know what he\u2019s going to do with the $500 million? He\u2019s going to have Harvard build vocational schools, the Harvard vocational school, because that\u2019s what America needs. We need to train people for the jobs that are coming. Fixing robots, right? HVAC systems,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It\u2019s not the first time that Lutnick has issued a fearless forecast for when the economy will boom.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In March, Lutnick told Fox Business that Trump\u2019s leadership would soon be reflected in the economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cYou\u2019re worried about someone pre-announcing? What they should announce is in the fourth quarter of 2025, this economy is going to be humming,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">That same month, he <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/media\/howard-lutnick-rips-atlanta-fed-gdpnow-contraction-prediction&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/media\/howard-lutnick-rips-atlanta-fed-gdpnow-contraction-prediction\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told the network<\/a> that \u201cshovels in the ground\u201d to build factories and bring production back to America would \u201cstart really strong in the third quarter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In July, after the Commerce Department reported that the GDP grew 3 percent, Lutnick announced in an X post that \u201cthe Trump Economy has officially arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Lutnick also <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/commerce-secretary-howard-lutnick-tariffs-spark-gdp-growth-2101422&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/commerce-secretary-howard-lutnick-tariffs-spark-gdp-growth-2101422\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told CBS News<\/a> that month that the \u201cnext two weeks are going to be weeks for the record books.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">GDP just surged to 3% and the Trump Economy has officially arrived.
