{"id":22125,"date":"2025-06-28T15:28:08","date_gmt":"2025-06-28T15:28:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/22125\/"},"modified":"2025-06-28T15:28:08","modified_gmt":"2025-06-28T15:28:08","slug":"ai-and-automation-report-struck-down-by-gubernatorial-veto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/22125\/","title":{"rendered":"AI and automation report struck down by gubernatorial veto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The study would &#8216;likely be obsolete&#8217; by the time it was completed in December.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Department of Commerce will not be conducting a statewide study on how Artificial Intelligence and automation impact the future of employment in the state after all.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2025\/827\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">HB 827<\/a><\/strong> would have compelled the Department\u2019s\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flhouse.gov\/Sections\/Bills\/billsdetail.aspx?BillId=81459\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">Bureau of Workforce Statistics and Economic<\/a><\/strong><br \/><strong>Research<\/strong> to \u201cstudy the economic impact of automation, artificial intelligence &amp; robotics\u201d on Florida\u2019s job market, but Gov.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/RonDeSantis.com\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ron DeSantis<\/strong><\/a> said there was no point.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cRecognizing that AI trends are ever-evolving in delivery, skill development, and in-demand career tracks, it makes no sense to wait for a report to be published by the state\u2019s labor statistics bureau. Indeed, such a report, to the extent it has value, would likely be obsolete by the time it was published,\u201d DeSantis wrote in his veto letter Friday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The report was slated to be published by December 1, 2025. It was to consider what industries were expected to be most affected in the next decade, regions and demographics most at risk, impact on wages and economic benefits, workforce training programs for those who lost their jobs, and the rate of \u201cjob loss or displacement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rep.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flhouse.gov\/Sections\/Representatives\/custom\/details.aspx?MemberId=4915&amp;LegislativeTermId=91\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Leonard Spencer<\/strong><\/a>, who introduced the bill, framed it as a way to prepare for the future.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jaytrumbull.com\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-723469\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/jay-trumbull-florida-politics-banner-ads-728x90-b-scaled-e1740688220698.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAre we training our young people for the jobs of the future? Are we supporting businesses as they adapt? Are we making sure workers aren\u2019t left behind? These are the questions we need to answer. We have a choice: we can either let change happen to us, or we can take control of our future.
