{"id":221265,"date":"2025-09-12T16:06:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T16:06:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/221265\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T16:06:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T16:06:09","slug":"derek-carr-opens-door-for-nfl-comeback-month-after-retirement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/221265\/","title":{"rendered":"Derek Carr opens door for NFL comeback month after retirement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s no shortage of potential jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Retired NFL quarterback Derek Carr starred as an NFL analyst for <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/20\/sports\/derek-carr-quickly-lands-media-job-after-shock-nfl-retirement\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">YouTube\u2019s broadcast of Chiefs vs. Chargers<\/a>, but his budding career in media might be put on hold for a comeback in the league.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wouldn\u2019t say never,\u201d Carr, 34, told Dan Patrick when asked if he would ever return. \u201cBecause I\u2019ve learned that when I say never, it usually happens. I think we\u2019ve all probably learned that. For me, I\u2019m training because I love to train. That\u2019s going to be the rest of my life. I love to train.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Derek Carr talks to Dan Patrick about his willingnness to return to the NFL.  Derek Carr, Dan Patrick<\/p>\n<p>Carr, 34, retired in May under some surprising circumstances while a member of the Saints, opting not to have shoulder surgery.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/10\/sports\/derek-carr-left-30-million-on-table-to-retire-from-saints\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">He chose to forfeit his $30 million fully guaranteed salary<\/a> for 2025 in exchange for the $10 million roster bonus he was paid in March when he had expected to play for New Orleans.<\/p>\n<p>Derek Carr injured himself during a game last season against the Giants. Robert Sabo for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI throw a football every now and then with my kids and to my buddy for fun because it\u2019s part of my rehab for my shoulder,\u201d Carr said. \u201cI\u2019m still doing those things, I\u2019ve always felt like, even though I\u2019m done, if God wanted me to do it, I gotta be ready. I don\u2019t want to go out there and not be ready. I\u2019ll be ready, but I\u2019m not coming back. Right now, today, I\u2019m not coming back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carr joked that he was busy coaching the fourth through sixth-grade Clovis Christian Warriors, where his two sons play football, and he said he impersonates his former coach, Jon Gruden. <\/p>\n<p>Derek Carr retired after being told he needed another shoulder surgery.  Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The Saints are in a dicey spot at quarterback thanks to the retirement of Carr, as they are currently rolling out fifth-round quarterback Spencer Rattler after second-round Louisville rookie, Tyler Shough, did not win the starting job in training camp.<\/p>\n<p>The Saints lost their season opener, 20-13, to the Cardinals with Rattler completing 27 of 46 passes for 214 yards.<\/p>\n<p>Before suffering the season-ending injury, Carr threw for 2,145 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions in 10 games last season.<\/p>\n<p>The four-time Pro Bowler now has a YouTube channel, as well as a podcast with his brother, former No. 1 overall pick David Carr.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"There\u2019s no shortage of potential jobs.
