But Asia Grant, an award-winning perfumer and founder of Scent Social Club<\/a>, has made it her mission to make the process simple and seamless\u2014and even fun.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Whether\u00a0you’re a perfume\u00a0connoisseur or a\u00a0total novice, “The Nolita Perfume Tour” invites all scent-seekers on\u00a0a two-hour long guided\u00a0experience\u00a0through\u00a0niche perfume stores in Manhattan. Included in the tours is a perfume shopping map of New York, a perfume guide\u00a0with personalized recommendations, free samples and exclusive in-store discounts. Each tour has a maximum of around eight people, so you’re getting a personal experience. Grant considers herself a certified scent sommelier, who\u00a0guarantees she will find you a niche, sophisticated\u00a0perfume or cologne\u00a0you love. And she has the credentials to prove it\u2014she co-owns\u00a0her own perfume and beauty brand,\u00a0Redoux<\/a>,\u00a0which she started with a friend after graduating college in 2019.\u00a0She’s also a prominent and reoccurring figure in the TikTok perfume community, known for her reviews\u00a0of perfumes and in-depth analysis of certain scents.<\/p>\n

But Grant believes\u00a0her gift of scent comes from\u00a0her\u00a0synesthesia\u2014a neurological condition that allows her to hear, see and even taste smells. “If I smell a perfume, I can hear the noise, music, rhythm of that\u00a0scent,” she told Time Out. “When I see the color blue, I know it smells like this, or I hear this song\u2014and it literally never turns off.”<\/p>\n

Before\u00a0going\u00a0on the perfume tour,\u00a0Grant\u00a0asks\u00a0her guests to answer\u00a0a\u00a0list of questions in regards to\u00a0their persona and how they want to come across. For example, if you say you want to come across as feminine, Grant will dissect what\u00a0feminine\u00a0actually means to you. The questions get really detailed: What type of jewelry do you wear? Do you own a Stanley Cup? Do you\u00a0typically\u00a0wear athleisure, or are you always wrapped in leather? From there, she\u00a0compiles\u00a0a list of fragrances for you to try in person.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“You want to feel like a woman, but not be overly sexualized\u2014great, how can we find\u00a0a scent that is simple yet nuanced enough to capture all of that?” Grant said.\u00a0Depending on your answers, she’ll cross\u00a0scents off her list of recommendations. Maybe you don’t want\u00a0rose or floral aromas.\u00a0But a soft, musty milk might work. “Here’s a fragrance for that version of you and here’s\u00a0a fragrance for another version. You\u00a0can be both. There’s no greater high in my life than\u00a0when\u00a0someone’s like ‘this is exactly me, you found it.'”\u00a0<\/p>\n
