{"id":221389,"date":"2025-09-12T17:12:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T17:12:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/221389\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T17:12:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T17:12:14","slug":"relocating-high-demand-games-pushes-wnba-to-new-attendance-highs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/221389\/","title":{"rendered":"Relocating high-demand games pushes WNBA to new attendance highs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-leagues-and-governing-bodies \">The 15 games that WNBA teams relocated from their traditional home venue to a larger arena to accommodate high ticket demand drew 236,670, helping propel the league to a record 3.15 million in paid attendance this season, according to SBJ\u2019s analysis of league\u2019s official box scores &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sportsbusinessdaily.com\/Articles\/2024\/09\/23\/wnba-attendance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2024\/09\/23\/wnba-attendance\/\">a jump of 34% compared to the 2024 season.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-leagues-and-governing-bodies \">The net attendance, calculated by comparing each of those games to the average of each club\u2019s other dates at their traditional home arena, added nearly 135,000 to the league\u2019s total, the equivalent of adding a 14th team to the league. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-leagues-and-governing-bodies \">The bigger venues were made up of six NBA or NHL and two minor league arenas and the games represented 5% of the league\u2019s total regular season inventory. In 2024, seven games were moved to nearby NBA arenas to help accommodate the surge in ticket demand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-leagues-and-governing-bodies \">That surplus is more than the season totals were for the Mystics and Dream, and more than what the Wings would have drawn if the two Fever games that the club hosted at American Airlines Center &#8212; which drew a total of 38,266 &#8212; had been sellouts at their 6,251-seat College Park Center.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-leagues-and-governing-bodies \">The moves also provide more exposure for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sportsbusinessdaily.com\/Articles\/2025\/05\/16\/wnba-season-tips-off-with-a-record-sponsor-roster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/05\/16\/wnba-season-tips-off-with-a-record-sponsor-roster\/\">the league\u2019s partners<\/a>.
