\nIt’s Mario birthday! The moustachioed maestro is 40 this weekend, and Nintendo is in a celebratory mood. Its latest Direct showcase<\/a> was chock full of Mario stuff – from re-releases to a brand-new tennis game – but things didn’t stop there. We also get a release date for Metroid Prime 4<\/a>, a glimpse of a new Fire Emblem, and more. For the full rundown of everything revealed, read on. \n<\/p>\n

\nFirst we got a bit of business involving the likes of a 40th anniversary ticket for the Nintendo Museum in Japan and a reminder about the Mario theme park land over at Epic Universe, Florida. But onto the video game news! Or rather movie news. Yup, Nintendo shared a first look at the Mario movie sequel<\/a>, confirming it’ll officially be titled The Super Mario Galaxy<\/a> Movie when it arrives next year. \n<\/p>\n

\nTwo of Mario’s very best adventures, Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, are being re-released for Switch and Switch 2<\/a> seperately and as a bundle. So if you want to relive the good old days, or experience them for the first time, here’s your chance. They’re not cheap at $40 each, but both arrive digitally on 2nd October with a physical release to follow. Also, two Mario Galaxy themed amiibo are due next year. \n<\/p>\n

\nMario Tennis Fever is coming to Switch 2<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n

\nIf you’re a fan of the Mario Tennis games, you’ll be chuffed to hear another is on the way – this time coming to Switch 2<\/a>. Mario Tennis Fever promises 38 characters – the most in the series’ history apparently – plus a range of different activities, online options, and an adventure mode starring the Mario babies. It’s out 12th February next year. \n<\/p>\n

\nSuper Mario Bros. Wonder is getting a Switch 2 upgrade<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n

\nThe delightfully daft Super Mario Bros. Wonder<\/a> is the latest Switch 1 game to get a Switch 2 upgrade. Alongside the excellent base adventure we’ve seen before, it’ll include a new mode called Meetup in Bellabell Park. It’s essentially a world packed with mini-games where players can work with or against their friends. Nintendo is also teasing other new content for a later reveal, and if that appeals, it’s out “spring” next year. Oh, and there’s a new Talking Flower toy coming too. \n<\/p>\n

\nThe ever-lovable Yoshi is back with another new adventure of his own. This time, the green dinosaur and his pals have been sucked into some kind of magical book where players can experience a “page-turning adventure” full of classic side-scrolling platform hijinks. It’s called Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and it’s out on Switch 2 next “spring”. \n<\/p>\n

\nStorm Lancers hits Switch <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n


\nAnd with the Mario stuff out the way, Nintendo began its Direct proper with a quick look at developer ProbablyMonsters’ Storm Lancers. It’s a roguelike adventure set in “80s anime-inspired realms”, playable either solo or in co-op, that’s coming to Switch eShop today. \n<\/p>\n

\nDinkum <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n


\nIf there’s still room in your universe for yet another life sim, behold Krafton’s survival-focused adventure Dinkum. It’s coming to Switch on 6th November, but a demo hits eShop today. \n<\/p>\n

\nPopucom<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n


\nFancy a bit of colourful, multiplayer-only platform adventure? Then you might like Popucom, which sees players tossing colours and shifting scenery to explore its world. It’s out this winter on Switch. \n<\/p>\n

\nTomodachi Life narrows its release window<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n

\nTomodachi Life<\/a>: Living the Dream, in which a bunch of comically voiced Miis cavort around an island in life sim fashion, has narrowed its release window to “spring” next year. Hoorah! \n<\/p>\n

\nMortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection coming to Switch 2<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n


\nMortal Kombat fans on Switch 2 have a bunch of retro action to look forward to. The Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, which includes a variety of the series’ classic fighting games, as well as a documentary delve into its history, comes to Nintendo eShop on 30th October. A physical release is due 12th December. \n<\/p>\n

\nFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade out in January<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n

\nFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, the first game in Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Remake trilogy, comes to Switch 2 on 22nd January next year, with pre-orders now available via eShop. \n<\/p>\n

\nLynked: Banner of Spark<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n


\nFuzzyBot’s Lynked: Banner of the Spark is a cheerily colourful action-RPG that’s part sci-fi roguelike, part relaxed life sim. Sound appealing? If so, it launches on Switch and Switch 2 later today. \n<\/p>\n

\nHades 2 gets a Switch 2 release date<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n

\nHades 2, the sequel to Supergiant’s much-loved original roguelike adventure, is finally leaving early access and coming to Switch 2 on 25th September<\/a>. That’s the eShop release, but if you want a physical version, it arrives on 20th November this year. \n<\/p>\n

\nMore amiibo!<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n


\nIf you just can’t get enough of those cheery little plastic figures, you’ve some Kirby options to look forward to, all arriving alongside (and compatible with) Kirby Air Riders on 20th November. One pack includes Kirby and his star-shaped vehicle, while the other includes Bandana Waddle Dee and his rider. Nintendo also noted another Kirby Air Riders Direct is happening soon. \n<\/p>\n

\nHyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment release date<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n

\nHyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment – the third game in Koei Tecmo’s hack-and-slash Zelda spin-off series – has a release date. The Tears of the Kingdom preview comes to Switch 2 on 6th November<\/a>, with pre-orders starting today. \n<\/p>\n

\nDragon Quest 7 Reimagined coming next year<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n

\nIf it’s classic RPG action you’re into, then there’s Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined. As its name suggests, it’s a remake of the PlayStation 1 adventure, first released in 2000, and it’s coming to Switch 2 on 5th February next year. \n<\/p>\n

\nAfter a brief update on the Nintendo App and its new Kirby theme, it was time for some serious retro deep cuts. From 17th February next year, Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers on Switch and Switch 2 can get stuck into some Virtual Boy titles, with 14 games confirmed. You’ll need a dedicated accessory to play them in 3D as originally envisaged (plastic and cardboard versions are coming), and more details will follow. \n<\/p>\n

\nFatal Frame 2 is getting a remake <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n


\nFatal Frame 2 – one of the best horror games ever made as far as I’m concerned – is being remade for Switch 2. The series’ classic camera-snapping action returns in Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterly Remake, out “early” next year. \n<\/p>\n

\nMore Switch 2 upgrades!<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n


\nNext up, we’ve got a bunch of games being upgraded to support Switch 2. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 will see more enemies on screen when it comes to Nintendo’s new console this autumn; Overcooked 2 gets CameraPlay this winter; Stardew Valley is getting mouse controls, four-person split-screen, and GameShare support this autumn. Plus, five new levels and mouse support come to Human Fall Flat next year. \n<\/p>\n

\nPowerWash Simulator 2<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n


\nHose-’em-up sequel PowerWash Simulator 2 – which gives players more filthy things to blast to a sheen – is confirmed to be arriving on Switch 2, complete with split-screen, this autumn. \n<\/p>\n

\nSuika Game Planet<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n


\nFruit-matching puzzler Suika Game Planet is coming to Switch and Switch 2 this winter, and if you have Nintendo’s newest console, GameShare is supported. \n<\/p>\n

\nMetroid Prime 4: Beyond gets release date<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n

\nAt long last, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which apparently includes Samus on a motorbike, has a release date<\/a>. It launches on 12th December 2025, with three amiibo confirmed. A standalone Samus, plus Samus on her bike, arrive on 6th November, while Sylux accompanies the game’s December launch. \n<\/p>\n

\nDonkey Kong Bananaza is getting paid DLC<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n

\nDonkey Kong fans are getting the chance to return to DK Island in new paid DLC for this year’s Switch 2 smash hit, Donkey Kong Bananaza. DK’s homestead looks to feature all sorts of nooks and crannies to explore, but the DLC also brings a new Emerald Rush challenge mode available across all levels. DK Island & Emerald Rush launches on Switch eShop – alongside a main game demo – today. \n<\/p>\n

\nMiscellaneous Pok\u00e9mon news!<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n

\nFirst up, we got a peek at Pok\u00e9mon Pokopia, which looks something like Animal Crossing for Pok\u00e9mon fans. That might be oversimplifying things a bit though. The main Pok\u00e9vent for today’s Direct, however, was more Pok\u00e9mon Legends Z-A, which saw the announcement of paid DLC despite not even being out yet. It’s called Mega Dimension, with more details to follow. \n<\/p>\n

\nDanganrompa 2 is coming to Switch 2<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n


\nClassic murder adventure Danganronpa 2 is coming to Switch 2 and Switch next year, with some added bits. \n<\/p>\n

\nWallop things in Dynasty Warriors: Origins next year<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n


\nMore hack-and-slash action from Koei Tecmo is on the way to Switch 2, this time in the form of Dynasty Warriors: Origins. It’s out 22nd January next year, with paid DLC arriving at the same time. \n<\/p>\n

\nMonster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection
\n dated<\/strong><\/p>\n


\nCapcom’s RPG twist on the monster-battling series returns for a third adventure. Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, as it’s known, now has a release date and is coming to Switch 2 on 13th March next year. \n<\/p>\n

\nResident Evil Requiem heading to Switch 2<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n

\nAfter a rapid-fire rundown of games to come, we got something a bit spooky. The latest instalment in Capcom’s long-running survival horror series, Resident Evil Requium, is heading to Switch 2<\/a> on 27th February next year. And that’s not all! Resident Evil 7 and 8 are incoming, both Switch 2 bound on 27th February. \n<\/p>\n

\nAnd to wrap things up, another entry in Nintendo’s much-loved (if slightly overexposed) fantasy series Fire Emblem. Expect plenty of turn-based battling (and probably some companion loving) when Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave hits Switch 2 next year. \n<\/p>\n
