A new dawn has arrived at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra<\/a>: Drinks are now allowed in the Meyerson Symphony Center<\/a> during classical concerts. <\/p>\n

The DSO announced the change in a quippy Instagram video this week. \u201cNo more \u2018where are my glasses?\u2019 moments!\u201d the caption read. <\/p>\n

It was a move to enhance the concertgoing experience, according to DSO spokesperson Chelsey Norris. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve heard directly from many patrons that they would appreciate being able to enjoy beverages during our concerts,\u201d Norris said in a Friday email. <\/p>\n

Drinks were previously allowed during nonclassical concerts, but not classical performances.<\/p>\n

In recent years, following a post-pandemic slump<\/a> in attendance (on par with arts groups nationwide), the DSO has experimented with its programming to lure new audiences. Tchaikovsky\u2019s music has been fused with the discography of Drake; this past spring, Beethoven blended with Beyonc\u00e9. <\/p>\n

The new policy for drinks, which must be bought from the Meyerson\u2019s lobby bars, may be a step in the same direction. <\/p>\n

In the comment section of the DSO\u2019s Instagram post, some patrons were ambivalent. <\/p>\n

\u201cNo more chugging Veuve Clicquot at intermission,\u201d one user wrote in favor of the news. <\/p>\n

Another, who was more critical, wrote: \u201cWhat pairs best with Rachmaninov\u2019s piano [concerto]? Wine in a plastic cup!\u201d <\/p>\n
