Attorney Mitch Kamin will serve as Mayor Karen Bass new chief of staff, replacing outgoing senior adviser Carolyn Webb de Bacias, the mayor\u2019s office announced Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m excited to bring in Mitch \u2014 a seasoned leader and status quo disrupter who will elevate our momentum to move Los Angeles in a new direction,\u201d Bass said in a statement. \u201cWe will build on historic decreases in homelessness, historic lows in homicide totals, comprehensive improvements in citywide safety and the fastest disaster recovery in state history.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kamin, a second-generation Angeleno, previously served as general counsel, chief strategy officer and corporate secretary for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art from August 2023 to February 2025.<\/p>\n
Before that, he was partner and co-chair of the commercial litigation practice group for the Covington & Burlington law firm from September 2015 to August 2023.<\/p>\n
He also previously served as the president and CEO of Bet Tzedek Legal Services. Kamin grew the organization to serve thousands of low-income and elderly people in the city, according to the mayor\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to be joining Mayor Bass at this critical time for our city,\u201d Kamin said in a statement. \u201cI look forward to helping Mayor Bass execute her vision \u2014 accelerating progress on homelessness, public safety and the responsiveness of City Hall, among other pressing goals.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bass also thanked Webb de Macias for her service, who had committed to lead the mayor\u2019s staff for one year but wound up staying longer. Webb de Macias came out of retirement to fill the position.<\/p>\n
