{"id":221859,"date":"2025-09-12T21:19:15","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T21:19:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/221859\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T21:19:15","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T21:19:15","slug":"rainn-wilson-slams-the-office-over-horrific-jokes-racist-and-insensitive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/221859\/","title":{"rendered":"Rainn Wilson slams &#8216;The Office&#8217; over &#8216;horrific&#8217; jokes: &#8216;Racist and insensitive&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>He\u2019s still not over it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Office\u201d star Rainn Wilson admits that the NBC comedy took it too far sometimes \u2014\u00a0and would need to be a \u201cvery, very different\u201d show if it returned in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cListen you know, the Benihana Christmas episode where Michael and Andy draw with a sharpie on one of the Asian women that they\u2019ve brought back to the Christmas party is jaw-droppingly kind of horrific,\u201d he said during an appearance on <a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/the-office-star-rainn-wilson-from-dwight-schrute-to-code-3\/id1456474041?i=1000725826839\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cThe Last Laugh\u201d podcast <\/a>released on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Rainn Wilson on a 2008 episode of \u201cThe Office.\u201d  \u00a9NBC\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<p>Rain Wilson on \u201cThe Last Laugh\u201d podcast. lastlaughpod\/Instagram<\/p>\n<p>Wilson starred as the office weirdo, Dwight Schrute, on the comedy, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/20\/entertainment\/why-the-office-cast-would-sneak-back-onto-set-after-hours\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">which ran from 2005 to 2013.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re clueless and in their cluelessness they\u2019re racist and insensitive, and they\u2019re always saying the wrong thing. And that\u2019s Michael, Dwight and Andy \u2014 and Kevin for that matter,\u201d he explained further. \u201cSo it\u2019s a show based around clueless, insensitive, racist, sexist people that kind of mirrors the United States in a lot of ways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201c[It\u2019s] a tricky conversation.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Although Wilson noted that you want to \u201cencourage it,\u201d because, \u201cit\u2019s funny as hell and it also kind of skewers a particular American sensibility,\u201d it still goes \u201cpretty far if you dig deep.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCould it happen today?\u201d he asked. \u201cI think it would have to be very, very different if it were made in this environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Steve Carell and Rainn Wilson in \u201cThe Office.\u201d  \u00a9NBC\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<p>John Krasinski and Rainn Wilson in \u201cThe Office.\u201d  \u00a9NBC\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, \u201cThe Office\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/03\/entertainment\/the-office-spinoff-the-paper-is-out-for-delivery-review\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">spinoff \u201cThe Paper\u201d premiered on Peacock<\/a>, following a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/03\/entertainment\/the-office-spinoff-the-paper-is-out-for-delivery-review\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new cast of characters in a new workplace.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Oscar Nunez was the only original \u201cThe Office\u201d star to reprise his role, revealing to The Post that Wilson asked him about the new project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, Rainn Wilson is always the one who finds out about things. Not even close,\u201d he proclaimed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWould it have been good? Would it have been solid? Would it have been a good solid comedy?
