On the conservative side, it\u2019s looking like<strong> a $28<\/strong> <strong>million <\/strong>Friday (including $11.4M previews) and a <strong>$45M<\/strong> three-day cume at 3,315 theaters, which is a definite record opening for anime movie.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHowever, there are others who believe Friday is around $35M (including previews), with a $60M-plus weekend in store. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe lower forecasts stem from the philosophy that the audience for this movie is niche-focused, limited to Demon Slayer devotees, and that no audience expansion is possible. While the last Demon Slayer opened to north of $21M and came out when theaters were reopening from the pandemic in the spring of 2021, Dragon Ball Super: Super Broly (which posted a similar opening), saw a -46% drop in its Saturday with $5.8M next to its $10.9M Friday. Marketing has been quite thrifty on this anime movie, on par with other Crunchyroll titles. That\u2019s the other amaze-amaze about this movie.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>Conjuring: Last Rites <\/strong>from New Line\/Warner Bros, per estimates, is coming in at <strong>$29.7M<\/strong> at 3,802 locations, which is where we saw it. That would make it off 65% for a running 10-day total by Sunday of <strong>$134.6M<\/strong>, very close to topping the original movie\u2019s cume, which is the franchise\u2019s highest at $137.4M.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThird belongs to Focus Features\u2019<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/09\/downton-abbey-the-grand-finale-review-1236505277\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1236505277\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Downton Abbey:<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/09\/downton-abbey-the-grand-finale-review-1236505277\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1236505277\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <strong>The Grand Finale<\/strong><\/a>, which as a shot at $20M but right now is at <strong>$19.5M <\/strong>in third at 3,694 sites. That is higher than the bow of 2022\u2019s previous chapter New Era after a $9.2M Friday (including $2.6M previews).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFourth is Lionsgate\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/09\/the-long-walk-movie-review-1236527521\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1236527521\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Long Walk<\/a><\/strong> at 2,815, looking at <strong>$11M-$13.5M<\/strong> after a <strong>$5M <\/strong>Friday. The movie, which largely stars a fresh-faced cast, was made for net $20M.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tDisney\u2019s 30th anniversary rerelease of Pixar\u2019s <strong>Toy Story<\/strong> is eyeing<strong> $1M<\/strong> today for a<strong> $3.4M<\/strong> weekend in estimates at 2,375 theaters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>FRIDAY AM, AFTER EXCLUSIVE:<\/strong> Previews for <strong>Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle<\/strong> came in at <strong>$11.4<\/strong> <strong>million<\/strong>. That\u2019s a record for an anime movie, beating 2022\u2019s Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero which did $4.3M in previews before a $10.9M Friday and $21.1M opening. By the way, that figure for Infinity Castle is for both Tuesday fan and Thursday night shows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tRelishMix counts 200 million followers in the Infinity Castle social media universe across TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and X. No surprise that chatter is positive given that RT audience score Thursday night, which continues to stand at 99%. \u201cHype centers on animation and Zenitsu\/Akaza moments; with comments exclaiming \u2018The animation is peak\u2019 and \u2018Zenitsu is LOCKED THE HELL IN\u2019 and \u2018Absolute mf cinema.\u2019 Event behavior is strong with fans exclaiming how they\u2019ve booked tickets at full capacity theaters, and calling the trailer \u2018godlike\u2019 as well as shoutouts to the LiSA and Aimer theme songs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFocus Features\u2019 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/downton-abbey-the-grand-finale\/\" id=\"auto-tag_downton-abbey-the-grand-finale\" data-tag=\"downton-abbey-the-grand-finale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale<\/a><\/strong> counted <strong>$2.6M<\/strong> in all previews from Wednesday and Thursday at 2,900 venues. Wednesday paid sneak previews alone on large-format screens were <strong>$1M<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tLionsgate\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/the-long-walk\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-long-walk\" data-tag=\"the-long-walk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Long Walk<\/a> <\/strong>came in at $1.3M. Not that those are any hard comps; it\u2019s just interesting to juxtapose the amount of cash this anime pic is racking up. Why are fans rushing to see this movie? Because it\u2019s the first in a trilogy. The record opening for anime movie belongs to Warner Bros\u2019 Pok\u00e9mon: The First Movie, which debuted to $31M in 1999.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAs we mentioned, Infinity Castle\u2018s weekend will be very frontloaded. Sony has forecast $35M for the opening of the Haruo Sotozaki-directed movie, while other sources believe the anime title\u2019s opening lies between $45M-$60M over Friday-Sunday.
