{"id":222810,"date":"2025-09-13T05:54:19","date_gmt":"2025-09-13T05:54:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/222810\/"},"modified":"2025-09-13T05:54:19","modified_gmt":"2025-09-13T05:54:19","slug":"holger-rune-suggests-whether-carlos-alcarazs-withdrawal-makes-denmark-favorites-for-davis-cup-tie-vs-spain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/222810\/","title":{"rendered":"Holger Rune suggests whether Carlos Alcaraz&#8217;s withdrawal makes Denmark favorites for Davis Cup tie vs Spain"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Spain will play their Davis Cup qualifying match without three of their best players.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/marion-bartoli-makes-bold-carlos-alcaraz-prediction-after-his-us-open-win-mark-my-words\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carlos Alcaraz\u2019s win at the US Open<\/a>, he withdrew from Spain\u2019s Davis Cup team for their qualifying tie against Denmark.<\/p>\n<p>Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/spain-lose-another-grand-slam-champion-for-crucial-davis-cup-tie-following-carlos-alcarazs-withdrawal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marcel Granollers also dropped out<\/a>, leaving Spain susceptible to a shock defeat against a team sitting 11 spots below them in the Davis Cup rankings.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2229301285-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Alejandro Davidovich Fokina reacts during his match with Joao Fonseca at the 2025 Cincinnati Open\" class=\"wp-image-119411\" \/>Photo by Matthew Stockman\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Denmark will be led by former world number four, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/holger-rune\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Holger Rune<\/a>, in Marbella, who played a vital role in the team\u2019s 3-2 comeback win over Serbia earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to news of Alcaraz\u2019s withdrawal, Rune has suggested whether Denmark are now favorites to qualify for November\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/davis-cup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Davis Cup<\/a> Finals.<\/p>\n<p>Holger Rune insists Spain are still the favorites despite Carlos Alcaraz\u2019s withdrawal<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marca.com\/tenis\/copa-davis\/2025\/09\/12\/holger-rune-esto-partido-rune-alcaraz-espana-dinamarca.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marca<\/a>, Rune previewed Denmark\u2019s Davis Cup tie with Spain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor sure, Spain is the favorite when you look at the ranking, but again, I\u2019m higher ranked than the Spanish players now, but it\u2019s their home court, the pressure is on them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-2235024699-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Holger Rune speaks to the media ahead of Denmark's Davis Cup tie vs Spain\" class=\"wp-image-129436\" \/>Photo by Angel Martinez\/Getty Images for ITF<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt helps us a little bit [the withdrawals], but again, it was going to be tough no matter what. Spain has good players on their team.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to it, there\u2019s going to be big battles, obviously, playing away is more difficult.
