REUTERS<\/p>\nPresident Trump predicted Friday that Zohran Mamdani will win New York City\u2019s mayoral election \u2014 while belittling the outspoken Democratic socialist as \u201cmy little communist.\u201d<\/p>\n
The president told \u201cFox & Friends\u201d that Mamdani could still be beaten in a one-on-one race, but bemoaned the \u201cbad\u201d crop of mayoral candidates for not giving Big Apple voters a viable alternative.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not looking at the polls too carefully, but it would look like he\u2019s going to win,\u201d Trump said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s a rebellion.<\/p>\n

The dismal assessment came as Trump and his allies appear to have\u00a0unsuccessfully tried\u00a0to entice<\/a>\u00a0Mayor Eric Adams and GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa to exit\u00a0the crowded mayoral race\u00a0to thwart Mamdani\u2019s ascension to City Hall.<\/p>\n Trump said former Gov. He\u2019s my little Communist mayor,\u201d the Queens native said. \u201cBut, you know, he has to come to Washington for money, a lot of money.\u201d<\/p>\n The president\u2019s seeming acceptance that he\u2019ll be dealing with Mamdani after November\u2019s election capped a whirlwind two weeks in which he and his allies staged an unprecedented interjection into the mayoral race.<\/p>\n A slew of\u00a0cushy potential jobs for Adams in Trump\u2019s administration<\/a>\u00a0were floated by the president\u2019s allies to get the mayor \u2013 who is polling in a dismal fourth place \u2013 to drop his independent re-election bid, sources have said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Trump officials considered similar job offers for Sliwa, the sources said, but the red-bereted Guardian Angels founder flatly rejected the idea he\u2019d stop running as the Republicans\u2019 standard bearer.<\/p>\n The president last week even\u00a0set a 10-day deadline<\/a>\u00a0for long-shot mayoral hopefuls to bow out, but it quietly passed without Adams or Sliwa complying with the drastic ask.<\/p>\n At the same time,\u00a0big money interests in New York City<\/a>\u00a0have also tried to consolidate the anti-Mamdani support behind Cuomo \u2013 while likewise dangling lucrative possible private gigs for Adams, according to sources.<\/p>\n Adams publicly insisted \u2013 including during a\u00a0defiant Sept. 5 news conference<\/a>\u00a0in which he contemptuously called Cuomo a \u201csnake and a liar\u201d \u2013 that he would remain in the race.\u00a0<\/p>\n But the mayor privately weighed the backroom offers designed to have him resign as mayor and end his scandal-plagued term so his name could be removed from the ballot, sources have said.<\/p>\n He\u00a0had been tentatively set to travel to Washington, DC, this week for a White House sit-down over the potential jobs, which included an\u00a0ambassadorship to Saudi Arabia<\/a>, and, reportedly, a post at the\u00a0US Department of Housing and Urban Development.<\/p>\n![\"Close-up](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/2025-trump-administration-asked-us-110654523_a91154.jpg\")
