From an “extremely funny” British comedy that you may have missed to an intense Cate Blanchett psychological drama, there’s lots to watch on TV.<\/p>\n

Here, Digital Spy<\/strong> has rounded-up five of the best.<\/p>\n

What to Read NextStar Trek<\/p>\n

The classic sci-fi franchise was successfully rebooted with this 2009 movie, which follows a young James T Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) as they take on Romulan Nero (Eric Bana).<\/p>\n

The JJ Abrams movie also features a number of other familiar characters, including Zoe Salda\u00f1a as Nyota Uhura, Karl Urban as Dr Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy and Simon Pegg as Montgomery ‘Scotty’ Scott.<\/p>\n

As well as being a box office success, spawning two sequels in 2013 and 2016, Star Trek was also a critical smash, sitting at a near-perfect 94% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, with The Times<\/a> calling it a “stunning prequel”.<\/p>\n

The Last Stand<\/p>\n

Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in this 2013 action thriller that centres on a small town sheriff and his staff as they try to stop a drug lord from escaping into Mexico.<\/p>\n

Sitting at a respectable 61% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, The Last Stand was called “surprisingly good fun” and “popcorn-friendly” by the Irish Times<\/a>, while the London Evening Standard<\/a> praised its “slick nostalgia”.<\/p>\n

The movie also features performances by Forest Whitaker, Johnny Knoxville, Rodrigo Santoro, Jaimie Alexander and Luis Guzm\u00e1n.<\/p>\n

Featuring and co-written by Julian Barratt and Paddington’s Simon Farnaby, Mindhorn follows a fading TV actor who is forced to work with the police when a serial killer \u2013 who believes his titular TV detective character to be real \u2013 says he will only speak to the fictional creation.<\/p>\n

The impressive cast includes Essie Davis, Russell Tovey, Andrea Riseborough and Harriet Walter. Watch out for cameos from Kenneth Branagh and Simon Callow too.<\/p>\n

Released in 2022, this towering drama stars Cate Blanchett as a fictional conductor called Lydia T\u00e1r, whose life begins to unravel when she is accused of misconduct.<\/p>\n

The actor earned a BAFTA win as well as an Oscar nomination for her turn in the movie, which was described as “the performance of a lifetime” by Empire<\/a>, while The Observer<\/a> called the movie a “phenomenal picture”.<\/p>\n

Directed and written by Todd Field, T\u00e1r also stars No\u00e9mie Merlant, Nina Hoss, Sophie Kauer and Julian Glover in supporting roles.<\/p>\n

Jack Reacher<\/p>\n

Before the days of the hit Prime Video<\/a> series, Tom Cruise starred as Lee Child’s titular character in this 2012 actioner.<\/p>\n

In Jack Reacher, the former US Army investigator is hired to help a homicide investigation into a trained military sniper involved in a mass shooting.<\/p>\n

The movie was well-received and sits at 64% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, with The Times<\/a> calling it “enjoyably boisterous”. The film also led to a 2016 sequel called Never Go Back.<\/p>\n
