Quarterback Matthew Stafford<\/a>, the linchpin to the Rams<\/a>\u2019 aspirations for another Super Bowl appearance<\/a>, emerged largely unscathed from a season-opening victory over the Houston Texans<\/a>, but another great challenge awaits the offensive line Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.<\/p>\n

Left guard Steve Avila<\/a> is doubtful because of an ankle injury and right guard Kevin Dotson<\/a> will be playing through an ankle issue.<\/p>\n

Not great news for a group that must contain Titans defensive end Jeffery Simmons<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is really disruptive,\u201d Stafford said of Simmons, who sacked Stafford three times in a Rams defeat in 2021, \u201cgets off on the count, physical, fast and plays with a nasty streak.\u201d<\/p>\n

To reinforce the line and help establish the rushing attack, coach Sean McVay<\/a> could deploy multiple tight ends.<\/p>\n

The Rams\u2019 defense faces quarterback Cam Ward<\/a>, the top pick in the NFL draft.<\/p>\n

Ward completed 12 of 28 passes for 112 yards in a 20-12 defeat by the Denver Broncos. He was sacked six times.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe didn\u2019t play bad last week,\u201d Rams edge rusher Byron Young said. \u201cHe looked pretty comfortable back there even though he got sacked a few times. He was handling himself pretty well. … He knows what he\u2019s doing.
