{"id":224197,"date":"2025-09-13T18:22:25","date_gmt":"2025-09-13T18:22:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/224197\/"},"modified":"2025-09-13T18:22:25","modified_gmt":"2025-09-13T18:22:25","slug":"mayor-john-whitmire-appoints-dr-theresa-tran-as-new-houston-health-department-director","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/224197\/","title":{"rendered":"Mayor John Whitmire appoints Dr. Theresa Tran as new Houston Health Department director"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tMayor John Whitmire announced during the Sept. 10 City Council meeting the appointment of Dr. Theresa Tran as the new director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonhealth.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Houston Health Department<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have some huge shoes to fill, but I think you can take the health department to the next generation,\u201d Whitmire said.<\/p>\n<p>Tran\u2019s appointment comes after the former director, Stephen Williams, announced his <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/houston\/heights-river-oaks-montrose\/health-care\/2025\/08\/28\/houston-health-department-director-retires-after-21-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">retirement after 21 years of service<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Career history <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tran works as a board-certified emergency physician with more than a decade of frontline clinical experience, according to an Aug. 29 news release. She previously served as associate vice president for clinical population health and advocacy at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uth.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UTHealth Houston<\/a>, as well as the assistant dean at the UTHealth School of Public Health.
