{"id":225097,"date":"2025-09-14T02:41:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-14T02:41:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/225097\/"},"modified":"2025-09-14T02:41:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-14T02:41:11","slug":"kate-hudson-recalls-almost-famous-role-she-nearly-played","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/225097\/","title":{"rendered":"Kate Hudson Recalls &#8216;Almost Famous&#8217; Role She Nearly Played"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMarking the 25th anniversary of her Oscar-nominated breakout performance in <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/almost-famous\/\">Almost Famous<\/a>, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/kate-hudson\/\">Kate Hudson<\/a> is reflecting on the iconic role of Penny Lane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe actress recently recalled that she originally \u201cgot the part for Anita,\u201d who was ultimately played by <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/zooey-deschanel\/\">Zooey Deschanel<\/a>, and how she convinced writer\/director <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/cameron-crowe\/\">Cameron Crowe<\/a> to cast her as the leader of the rock &amp; roll-supporting \u2018Band-Aids\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cAnd then, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/sarah-polley\/\">Sarah Polley<\/a> was supposed to play Penny Lane, and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/brad-pitt\/\">Brad Pitt<\/a> was supposed to play Russell, and then, they fell through. And I was the only one cast,\u201d Hudson told <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/etnow\/status\/1967000338789265444\">Entertainment Tonight<\/a>. \u201cI was like, \u2018Cameron, can I please audition for Penny Lane?\u2019 And he didn\u2019t really want it at first. \u2026 And then like, four auditions later, finally he called me, and he was like, \u2018You wanna be Penny Lane?\u2019 I was like, \u2018Oh my god, Yes!&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe rest is history, as Hudson played the free-spirited music lover opposite <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/patrick-fugit\/\">Patrick Fugit<\/a>\u2018s wide-eyed journalist William Miller, a character inspired by Crowe\u2019s own adolescence as a writer for Rolling Stone. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/billy-crudup\/\">Billy Crudup<\/a> ended up cast as Russell Hammond, guitarist of Stillwater.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHudson added, \u201cAll of this was magic for me, because it completely changed my life.
