Former five-star recruit Ty Simpson could have entered the transfer portal this offseason and heard lucrative offers from various programs around the country. However, instead, he chose to return to the Alabama football<\/a> program for a fourth season. And he claims his decision to stay was not made just by him, but was pre-determined from above.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not gonna sit here and say it wasn\u2019t hard because there were some days, I feel like God wasn\u2019t on my side and I didn\u2019t really understand His plan,\u201d Simpson said at the Manning Passing Academy this week (h\/t Crescent City Sports<\/a>). \u201cBut I prayed about it. At the end of the day, there wasn\u2019t anywhere else where I wanted to play. I felt that God had put me in Tuscaloosa for a reason. I always felt like I could accomplish everything that I could.<\/p>\n

\u201cStill to this day, with winning a national championship and being a first-round pick there at the University of Alabama. And I couldn\u2019t leave my friends, my teammates,\u201d he added. \u201cSome of my best friends who are going to be in my wedding one day are my teammates there. Seeing them on a different sideline, it didn\u2019t feel right to me. With Coach [Nick] Saban\u2019s guidance and the guys who are on the team and go to school there, there was nowhere else I would rather be than the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.\u201d<\/p>\n

It certainly helps that Simpson is the current favorite to be Alabama\u2019s starting QB next season. While he will be competing against Austin Mack and freshman Keelon Russell this summer, offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb has claimed recently that he is in the driver\u2019s seat to be the starter this season.<\/p>\n

Simpson came up short in a QB competition with Jalen Milroe last year. The former Alabama football starter entered the NFL Draft in April and was selected in the third round by the Seattle Seahawks<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Simpson has played in 14 games for the Crimson Tide over his three seasons. Posting 381 passing yards and 130 rushing yards with no touchdowns.<\/p>\n
