The Huskers dominated once again, carrying over their big win against Akron by blowing out the Huskies 59-7.

Though not reaching the numbers they put up against Akron, the Huskers tallied 554 yards of offense, including 362 yards passing. Dylan Raiola played just the first half, tossing 15-of-21 for 222 yards and two touchdowns to help Nebraska head into the locker room up 38-0.

Freshman TJ Lateef took over for the majority of the second half, before Jalyn Gramstad stepped in partway through the fourth. Both quarterbacks finished perfect in completions, with Lateef going 5-for-5 and Gramstad throwing 3-for-3. Lateef finished with 126 yards passing and one touchdown, while Gramstad delivered 14 yards. Lateef also ran in for a score.

Emmett Johnson also played for just the first half and rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns off 13 carries. Kwinten Ives led Nebraska in rushing, however, racking up 85 yards and one touchdown off 12 carries. He also hauled in two catches for 36 yards.

Freshman Isaiah Mozee earned a few catches for the running back room, finishing the game with three receptions for 26 yards. Dane Key cracked 100 yards receiving in the win off just four catches, tallying a team-high 104, which included a 40-yard touchdown from a slant route.

Freshman Cortez Mills finished right behind him with three catches for 98 yards and a 62-yard touchdown. Jacory Barney, meanwhile, snatched his first career touchdown reception after finishing the day with three catches for 22 yards.

Nebraska stalled twice inside the 20, one leading to a field goal on the opening drive and the other resulting in a fourth-down failure late in the game following a fumble by Houston Christian. The Huskies also scored their only touchdown of the game when Xai’Shaun Edwards broke a tackle, changed directions, and took off for a 45-yard run to end the shutout.

But those failed attempts didn’t dampen Nebraska’s stellar performance. Defensively, outside the touchdown run, Nebraska held Houston Christian to 67 passing yards and 93 rushing yards. The Blackshirts also delivered three sacks and eight tackles for loss. They also recovered two of the Huskies’ four fumbles, with Missouri transfer Williams Nwaneri scooping one up and taking it 29 yards for a score.

Nebraska now faces a major test on Saturday, Sept. 20, when Michigan comes into town for the start of Big Ten action.
