A 14-year-old boy faces a murder charge after surrendering to Jacksonville police<\/a> investigating a fatal shooting at a Westside apartment complex.<\/p>\n

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrested the teen \u2014 who the Times-Union isn’t identifying because he is not yet charged as an adult \u2014 on Sept. 12.<\/p>\n

The Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that it took the youth into custody on the same day that homicide unit detectives obtained an arrest warrant for him. The teen had turned himself in to the police that day, according to the Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n

He is accused of shooting 18-year-old Marlon Lane on Sept. 10 at an apartment complex on Labelle Street.<\/p>\n

About 5 p.m. Sept. 10, police investigating a report of a shooting found Lane with multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the apartment complex, reported First Coast News<\/a>, the Times-Union news partner.<\/p>\n

Lane subsequently died from his injuries despite being rushed to the hospital by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.<\/p>\n

The Sheriff’s Office, in a social media statement about the arrest, said, “our detectives and officers will hold you accountable for violent acts, no matter how old you are.”<\/p>\n

“We\u2019ll continue to partner with the State Attorney\u2019s Office to bring justice to Lane\u2019s loved ones,” the Sheriff’s Office also said in its post on Facebook and X, formerly Twitter. “We can\u2019t stress this enough: parents and family members, please get involved in your children\u2019s lives.”<\/p>\n
