The CicLAvia street festival returns to South Los Angeles Sunday with a 6.25-mile stretch of Central Avenue closed to motorized vehicle traffic while participants explore the surrounding communities.<\/p>\n
The \u201cHistoric South Central meets Watts\u201d event, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, will connect the Historic South Central, Florence, Firestone, and Watts neighborhoods with a car-free zone only open for walking, running, biking and skating. No vehicles, electric scooters, electric skateboards, hoverboards, electric unicycles, motorcycles, or other non-people-powered vehicles will be allowed.<\/p>\n
\u201cSouth LA is always one of the highlights of CicLAvia\u2019s schedule,\u201d Executive Director Romel Pascual told Westside Sunday. \u201cAlong South Central Avenue, LA\u2019s dynamic culture can be seen in the local businesses and restaurants, community parks, and public art that are on the route. It gives Angelenos the opportunity to see new things, which reminds us of what makes our city a remarkable and special place.\u201d<\/p>\n
The route will include five activity hubs with family-friendly entertainment, free water refills, basic bike repairs, rest areas, first aid, and bike parking. Free pedicab rides will also be available. The hubs will be:<\/p>\n
\u2014 Historic South Central, South Central Avenue., south of Washington Boulevard<\/p>\n
\u2014 Jazz Park, 41st Place and South Central Avenue<\/p>\n
\u2014 Florence Firestone, near 61st Street<\/p>\n
\u2014 Central Avenue, near East 84th Street<\/p>\n
\u2014 Watts, near 109th Street<\/p>\n
