Kilmeade, a host of the morning show, was talking with co-hosts Lawrence Jones and Ainsley Earhardt about the Aug. 22 <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/charlotte-stabbing-ukrainian-refugee-iryna-zarutska-cc9ec826660468830b3f18a71e1a9aaf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stabbing murder of Iryna Zarutska<\/a> on a light rail train in Charlotte, North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>A homeless and mentally ill man, Decarlos Brown Jr., was arrested for murder, and the case received extensive attention on Fox following the release of a security video of the stabbing.<\/p>\n<p>Jones was talking on \u201cFox &amp; Friends\u201d on Wednesday about public money spent on trying to help homeless people and suggested that those who didn\u2019t accept services offered to them should be jailed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOr involuntary lethal injection, or something,\u201d Kilmeade said. \u201cJust kill \u2018em.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earhardt interjected, \u201cWhy did it have to get to this point?\u201d Kilmeade replied, \u201cI will say this, we\u2019re not voting for the right people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During an appearance on the \u201cFox &amp; Friends\u201d weekend show Sunday, Kilmeade said that \u201cI wrongly said they should get lethal injection. I apologize for that extremely callous remark. I am obviously aware that not all mentally ill, homeless people act as the perpetrator did in North Carolina and that so many homeless people deserve our empathy and compassion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fox News management did not immediately return messages seeking comment.<\/p>\n<p>An advocate for homeless people said Sunday that Kilmeade\u2019s remark had been \u201ccompletely devoid of all humanity.\u201d Christine Quinn, president and CEO of Win, a provider of shelter and services for homeless children in New York City, invited Kilmeade to volunteer in one of the organization\u2019s shelters.<\/p>\n<p>Kilmeade\u2019s initial remark came hours before the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Utah. An MSNBC analyst, Matthew Dowd, was <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/matthew-dowd-charlie-kirk-msnbc-9f649967c4629ce238345c71bbf22eca\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fired for saying on the air<\/a> that afternoon that hateful rhetoric can lead to hateful actions.<\/p>\n<p>___<\/p>\n<p>David Bauder writes about the intersection of media and entertainment for the AP.
