BEXAR COUNTY, Texas \u2014 Authorities said a high-speed chase in northeast Bexar County ended in a crash, sending several people to the hospital\u2014including two sheriff\u2019s deputies.<\/p>\n
According to the Bexar County Sheriff\u2019s Office, the incident began around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday when deputies spotted a maroon 2007 BMW 335i weaving through traffic at dangerously high speeds going southbound on I-35 near Weidner Road.<\/p>\n
Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver fled, prompting a pursuit. Officials say the pursuit was initially terminated after deputies lost sight of the suspect. However, the BMW reappeared moments later and the chase resumed.<\/p>\n
The situation escalated when the suspect ran a red light at the intersection of I-35 and Weidner, authorities said. A pursuing deputy, attempting to navigate the intersection, crashed into a red truck and a blue SUV.<\/p>\n
All vehicles involved sustained significant damage, according to BCSO.<\/p>\n
One deputy suffered a head laceration and showed signs of a possible concussion. Another deputy reported wrist pain. Both were transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) for evaluation.<\/p>\n
In the other vehicles, several occupants reported minor injuries. BCSO said two individuals from the red truck \u2014 including a child who was not properly restrained \u2014 were taken to North Central Baptist Hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
Following the crash, investigators were able to identify the suspect as 19-year-old Matthew David Castilleja. He was located at a residence connected to his girlfriend and taken into custody without incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Deputies say Castilleja admitted he fled out of fear but declined to answer additional questions.<\/p>\n
The BMW was towed and processed for evidence after a search warrant was executed.<\/p>\n
Castilleja was booked into the Bexar County Jail on a charge of evading arrest with a motor vehicle, a third-degree felony. His bond is set at $30,000.<\/p>\n
