{"id":227190,"date":"2025-09-14T22:23:21","date_gmt":"2025-09-14T22:23:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/227190\/"},"modified":"2025-09-14T22:23:21","modified_gmt":"2025-09-14T22:23:21","slug":"fort-worth-councilman-opposes-lowering-flag-for-charlie-kirk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/227190\/","title":{"rendered":"Fort Worth Councilman Opposes Lowering Flag For Charlie Kirk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"268\" data-end=\"495\">Internal City of Fort Worth emails obtained by The Dallas Express reveal that Fort Worth Councilman Chris Nettles, a Democrat, criticized city staff for lowering flags to half-staff after the assassination of Turning Point USA founder <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasexpress.com\/national\/jesus-defeated-death-so-you-can-live-charlie-kirks-enduring-legacy-as-devoted-husband-and-father-faithful-leader-and-defender-of-liberty\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Charlie Kirk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"268\" data-end=\"495\">As previously <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasexpress.com\/tarrant\/no-justification-for-evil-fort-worth-mayor-blasts-councilwoman-beck-for-mocking-kirks-murder\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> by The Dallas Express, Fort Worth Democrat Councilwoman Elizabeth Beck is under fire for an Instagram story posted shortly after Kirk\u2019s assassination. DX first broke the story on its X account, and it has since been picked up nationally. Despite the backlash, which has led to a <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasexpress.com\/tarrant\/can-fort-worth-councilwoman-elizabeth-beck-be-recalled-after-backlash-over-charlie-kirk-post\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">recall effort<\/a> against Beck, Nettles and fellow Democrat Councilwoman Deborah Peoples <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasexpress.com\/tarrant\/fort-worth-democrats-defend-councilwoman-beck-after-controversial-charlie-kirk-post\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">defended<\/a> her post.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"497\" data-end=\"649\">The emails show Nettles demanding to know why the decision was made and accusing staff of creating division.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"651\" data-end=\"847\">\u201cThis post on Facebook says Donald Trump ordered flags to be half-staff, where is the order? Who gave the ok?\u00a0Who informed City Council (which is the representation of the city)?,\u201d Nettles wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"849\" data-end=\"918\">In the same email, Nettles accused city employees of promoting hate.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"920\" data-end=\"1225\">\u201cWhoever ok this from the city, be it Mattie, Jay or any other city staff. Please know that you are sending a message of division, divisiveness and even hatred. There are so many mix emotions surrounding the shooting, his stance towards a certain class of people or even race and gender,\u201d Nettles said in an email to city staff.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"651\" data-end=\"847\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-267984\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/nettles_email_1-515x808.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"515\" height=\"808\"  \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"920\" data-end=\"1225\">\u201cMattie\u201d refers to Fort Worth Mayor, Mattie Parker. \u201cJay\u201d is Fort Worth City Manager, Jay Chapa.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1227\" data-end=\"1356\">City staff responded that the decision was not discretionary <strong data-start=\"3965\" data-end=\"3981\">but required<\/strong> under longstanding city policy.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1358\" data-end=\"1588\">\u201cPresident Trump issued a Proclamation ordering that flags be lowered to half mast [sic]. City policy has always been to follow the order when issued by the President, Governor or Mayor.
