{"id":227661,"date":"2025-09-15T02:42:17","date_gmt":"2025-09-15T02:42:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/227661\/"},"modified":"2025-09-15T02:42:17","modified_gmt":"2025-09-15T02:42:17","slug":"neighbours-shocked-as-indian-grocery-store-opens-up-from-garage-on-a-quiet-residential-street-in-australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/227661\/","title":{"rendered":"Neighbours shocked as Indian grocery store opens up from garage on a quiet residential street in Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"author-section byline-plain\">By ASHLEY NICKEL, NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA <\/p>\n<p class=\"byline-section\"> Published:  21:36 EDT, 14 September 2025   |  Updated:  22:16 EDT, 14 September 2025   <\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A &#8216;home-based&#8217; grocery store being run out of a residential garage has prompted frustrated neighbours to write to local ministers in the hope of getting it shut down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Kerala Spices Indian Groceries has been operating on Porter Street in Wright, west Canberra, since 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Nearby residents have claimed the store is a &#8216;disruption to the community,&#8217; while its owners insist the grocer is a &#8216;legal home-based business,&#8217; Canberra Times reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A letter to ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr from neighbour Prasad Abeyrathne described customers parking on the street and large trucks unloading goods, which he claimed could pose a risk to children playing on footpaths.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;This business is now destroying the everyday life of its neighbours; it runs from 6:30am to 11:00pm,&#8217; Dr Abeyrathne said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;Throughout the day, there is a continuous flow of traffic to the shop.
