{"id":228139,"date":"2025-09-15T07:13:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-15T07:13:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/228139\/"},"modified":"2025-09-15T07:13:13","modified_gmt":"2025-09-15T07:13:13","slug":"2025-emmys-how-nate-bargatze-fared-as-a-first-time-host","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/228139\/","title":{"rendered":"2025 Emmys: How Nate Bargatze fared as a first-time host"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LOS ANGELES (AP) \u2014 Nate Bargatze, the host of this year\u2019s Emmy Awards, <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/live\/emmy-awards-2025-updates\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">kicked off the ceremony<\/a> Sunday with a string of jokes poking fun at the television industry.<\/p>\n<p>The show opened with a sketch where \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d stars Mikey Day, Bowen Yang and James Austin Johnson joined Bargatze, who played television inventor Philo T. Farnsworth. The audience was warm to Bargatze\u2019s jokes as he, while playing Farnsworth, opined on what the future of TV will be like.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe create a world where the finest artists craft stories of staggering beauty that millions of people will watch on their phones while they\u2019re sitting on the toilet,\u201d Bargatze said.<\/p>\n<p>Bargatze, a 46-year-old stand-up comic from Tennessee known for his friendly style, was not a typical host. The gig left some wondering how Bargatze would approach it.<\/p>\n<p>Bargatze joked that 77th award ceremony is \u201cnot a big one, like 75 or 80, but it\u2019s the one that gave me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people are wondering, like, why am I hosting?\u201d Bargatze said. \u201cI\u2019m a stand up comedian. The Learning Channel, he joked, would be where \u201choarders, people who eat couch cushions, Dr. Pimple Popper,\u201d would dominate.<\/p>\n<p>Bargatze went on to mention that there would be Black Entertainment Television. When asked if there will be a network for white people, he replied, \u201cWhy, CBS of course.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bargatze said streaming will be \u201ca new way for companies to lose money.\u201d Streaming services, he said, will create their own stars, who will be \u201creal-life murderers, mostly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yang\u2019s character assumed \u201cthe viewer pays the fee, so there are no ads,\u201d to which Bargatze joked, \u201cif only it were that simple.\u201d When Johnson said that is unfair to the consumer, prompting Bargatze chastised him that, \u201cWe don\u2019t say that out loud. Get out. Go sit in the back with the people who are probably going to lose anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Emmys don\u2019t have a routine host, unlike other major awards shows like the Oscars, which has <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/conan-obrien-oscars-host-2026-37bcece73fbb4baf54f904f4c4fbd609\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Conan O\u2019Brien returning in 2026<\/a> and <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/nikki-glaser-golden-globes-host-2026-1d42f8ccb6fff9fd18d8e44977ba7ede\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikki Glaser returning<\/a> to host the Golden Globes. The last four Emmys have been hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy, Anthony Anderson, Kenan Thompson and Cedric the Entertainer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy parts will be dumb and silly,\u201d Bargatze told \u201cEntertainment Tonight\u201d on the red carpet ahead of the show. <\/p>\n<p>Bargatze, who wrapped up three shows in Denver on Saturday and Friday ahead of the award ceremony, has emerged as one of the most popular stand-up comedians today. He sold more than 1.2 million tickets in 2024, according to Pollstar and has released three Netflix specials, including December\u2019s \u201cYour Friend, Nate Bargatze\u201d and has hosted <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/saturday-night-live\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cSaturday Night Live.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bargatze also dreamed up a creative way to ensure winners keep their acceptance speeches under the 45 second limit. The comedian pledged to donate $100,000 to the Boys &amp; Girls Clubs. He said he would deduct $1,000 for every second a winner goes over the allotted time and will add the same amount for every second under.<\/p>\n<p>Seth Rogen\u2019s acceptance speech for the first category announced, lead actor in a comedy series, was under the allotted time, which bumped the donation to $106,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t go crazy though cause like, I am paying for this,\u201d Bargatze said.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of the show\u2019s first hour, the total had plummeted to $74,000.
