We’ve turned the corner from that hot, muggy summer—right now, it’s downright pleasant. This morning kicked off with a refreshing 61 degrees and that smile you feel isn’t just you.

High temperatures are lining up right around or just below the usual mark for this time of year—average is about 88 degrees, but we’re staying in the mid-80s. If you’re ready for some true September perfection, you’re in luck. I’m calling for 80s, 80s, and more 80s through most of the week, and these conditions are just what we deserve after a sizzling summer and last week’s winds.

It’s gorgeous out, a little breezy with winds gusting in the teens and 20s, but nothing out of the ordinary. Most of you will see dry days: I’m looking at just a 10 percent chance for a stray shower, nothing that should change your outdoor plans. Your UV index is high—and so is the rip current risk—so don’t forget your sunscreen if you’re heading to the beach.

Whether you’re walking the dog, catching a Jumbo Shrimp game, or just soaking up some sun, this is a week to get outside and enjoy. For my fellow pet lovers, walking your dog is going to be a treat in this kind of weather (as long as you can keep them from sneaking out for solo midnight strolls!).

Coastal flood advisory and local tides

Now, I want to make sure everyone’s aware that there’s still a coastal flood advisory in effect. This is mainly tied to those higher tide cycles, and if you’re living anywhere near Jax Beach or even down toward St. Augustine, keep your eyes out especially just after 3 p.m. That’s when we hit our high tide—3:33 p.m. to be exact.

If you’ve been watching these advisories the past few weeks, you know the drill. This is standard for us during certain high tide patterns, and at this point, there are no new alerts outside the ongoing advisory. Showers could drift onshore from the Atlantic but are not expected to create any major problems.

Tropical outlook and rain chances

We are keeping a close eye on the tropics as we head further into September. According to the National Hurricane Center, there’s an area with a rising chance of development that could become a tropical depression as early as midweek. Dry air could slow things down, but warm water and low wind shear could make conditions a little more favorable for something to spin up.

Right now, there’s nothing to worry about in Jacksonville, but I’ll be tracking it with The Weather Authority’s Exact Track 4D radar every step of the way. Unless things change, the majority of our area stays dry with low rain chances and just the possibility of a couple of pop-up showers along the coast.

If you spot any weather changes or have a great outdoor photo to share, let your neighbors know and send it in using SnapJAX.
