{"id":229321,"date":"2025-09-15T18:07:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-15T18:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/229321\/"},"modified":"2025-09-15T18:07:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-15T18:07:11","slug":"unions-dallas-wings-fans-rally-outside-last-game-seeking-fair-pay-as-negotiation-deadline-looms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/229321\/","title":{"rendered":"Unions, Dallas Wings fans rally outside last game seeking fair pay as negotiation deadline looms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The WNBA is bringing in bigger bucks after the league announced earlier this year it signed a $2.2 billion media contract, and players with the Dallas Wings want their pay to reflect that.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the AFL-CIO in Tarrant County gathered outside the WNBA team\u2019s final game of the season in Arlington to rally support for the players in contract negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>They were joined by State Rep. Chris Turner (D\u2013Grand Prairie) and a handful of fans outside the team\u2019s home at College Park Center on UTA\u2019s campus as the team got warmed up inside.<\/p>\n<p>As collective bargaining between players and the league nears its Oct. 31 deadline, Tarrant County Central Labor Council President Tevita Uhatafe said it\u2019s important for Wings fans to show support for their team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese players are making millions and millions of dollars for this league,\u201d he said. \u201cEverybody recognizes it, but nobody wants to say that they should be compensated for it except for people who advocate for their labor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Contract negotiations between the league and its players got news attention in July when WNBA players, including Dallas Wings rookie guard Paige Bueckers,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasstandard.org\/stories\/wnba-all-star-game-pay-us-what-you-owe-shirts-union-collective-bargaining\/#:~:text=Texas%20Standard:%20Perhaps%20some%20fans,higher%20than%20their%20current%20deal.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wore union shirts at the All-Star Game<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The shirts urged the league to \u201cPay Us What You Owe Us,\u201d calling on the league to increase what it pays the players in the new contract.<\/p>\n<p>Uhatafe said that\u2019s in reference to the disparity between the NBA and WNBA. He said the AFL-CIO was there in part to fight for WNBA players to get an equal share of the money the league brings in when compared with the NBA.<\/p>\n<p>The league previously told Front Office Sports that it is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/frontofficesports.com\/wnba-cba-deadline-negotiations\/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CWe%20have%20been%20clear%20with,the%20rest%20of%20the%20season.%E2%80%9D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">working to reach an agreement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been clear with the WNBPA but so there is no doubt\u2014our number one priority is to get a new collective bargaining agreement completed that addresses the players\u2019 priorities while also supporting the long-term growth and success of the league and teams,\u201d the league told Front Office Sports in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Turner, who represents Grand Prairie and parts of Arlington, said the increase in the popularity of women\u2019s basketball is a great thing.
