S&P 500 futures<\/a> were flat Monday night after the Senate confirmed President\u00a0Donald Trump’s<\/a>\u00a0pick to join the\u00a0Federal Reserve<\/a>,\u00a0Stephen Miran<\/a>, just one day before the central bank meets to consider whether to cut interest rates.<\/p>\n Futures tied to the broad index and Nasdaq 100 futures<\/a> each ticked down 0.07%. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures<\/a> slid 40 points, or 0.09%.<\/p>\n Monday night’s action follows a winning day<\/a> on Wall Street. Both the S&P 500<\/a> and Nasdaq Composite<\/a> notched all-time closing highs, with the former notably finishing above 6,600 for the first time.<\/p>\n Investors appeared pleased with President Donald Trump’s positive description of trade talks with China. Several big technology stocks provided upside for the market, led<\/a> by<\/a> jumps of more than 4% and 3% in Alphabet<\/a> and Tesla<\/a>, respectively.<\/p>\n “Thus far, generally everything’s gone right,” said Michael Kantrowitz, chief investment strategist at Piper Sandler, on CNBC’s “Power Lunch<\/a>.” “Many fears have gone away, and … for the first time in about three years, you’re seeing a broad improvement in earnings expectations.”<\/p>\n
