1.\u00a0‘It\u2019s not right’: Federal cuts impact Hispanic arts community<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

Monday, Sept. 15 marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month. As millions of Texans celebrate, some are using the moment to raise funds after federal grants from the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) were cut this spring, like for Flamenco Fever, a dance company in Dallas.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey ripped the rug out from under everybody, and it\u2019s not right,\u201d said Julia Alcantara, executive director of Flamenco Fever.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Fort Worth high school band director assaulted near campus<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

A high school band director in Fort Worth was assaulted by a group of young people, according to a statement from the high school.<\/p>\n

Southwest High School Principal John Engel, which is part of the Fort Worth Independent School District,\u00a0posted on Facebook\u00a0that the assault occurred after school on Friday near the campus. The post said the \u201cyoung individuals\u201d are not believed to be Southwest students.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Texas Rep. McCaul will retire, but GOP hawk also worries about World War III after Russian escalation<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

Rep. Michael McCaul of Texas, one of the GOP’s most prominent foreign affairs hawks, announced he’d retire on Sunday while warning that, with Russia’s escalation of its\u00a0invasion of Ukraine, \u201cwe got to be very careful not to be on the precipice of a World War III.\u201d<\/p>\n

McCaul made his statements to ABC News as he discussed last week’s\u00a0incursion into Polish airspace\u00a0of Russian drones, which led to NATO scrambling jets to intercept the vehicles.<\/p>\n
