Andrew Cuomo in a head-to-head contest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A new Marist poll <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2025\/09\/11\/in-marked-shift-adams-plans-to-launch-poll-soon-to-help-decide-whether-to-stay-in-mayoral-race\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:showed Mamdani;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">showed Mamdani<\/a> leading Andrew Cuomo by 21 points, with 45% of polltakers saying they support Mamdani and 24% choosing Cuomo. Republican Curtis Sliwa received 17% and 9% backed Mayor Adams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Those opposed to Mamdani, including President Trump, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2025\/09\/12\/cuomo-pans-adams-plan-for-additional-polling-to-help-decide-whether-to-stay-in-nyc-mayoral-race\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:urged for consolidation;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">urged for consolidation<\/a> in the race to give one candidate the best shot at defeating the nominee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Adams has pondered ending his campaign to take a job with President Trump or in the private sector, the Daily News has previously reported \u2014 although <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2025\/09\/12\/adams-admin-official-fired-after-calling-charlie-kirk-killing-karma\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:the mayor;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">the mayor<\/a> on Monday said he\u2019d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2025\/09\/05\/mayor-adams-trump-calls-listen-amid-news-of-ending-re-election-bid-cuomo-mamdani\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:stay in the race;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">stay in the race<\/a> \u2019til the end.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI want you to look at my records and compare it to the records of those who are running,\u201d Adams said Monday. \u201cI lived up to what I promised that I was going to work hard for you.
