{"id":231654,"date":"2025-09-16T15:19:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T15:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/231654\/"},"modified":"2025-09-16T15:19:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T15:19:09","slug":"new-automated-kiosks-in-ontario-will-pay-you-for-your-old-phone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/231654\/","title":{"rendered":"New automated kiosks in Ontario will pay you for your old phone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EcoATM, a global leader in electronics recycling, officially launched in Canada through a partnership with Walmart.<\/p>\n<p>According to the company&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20250915811176\/en\/ecoATM-Launches-in-Canada-Through-Partnership-with-Walmart-Introducing-First-13-Kiosks-to-the-Greater-Toronto-Area\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a>, the initial launch will see 13 kiosks open in Walmarts across the Greater Toronto Area, mainly in Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, and Burlington, with plans for further expansion.<\/p>\n<p>A report from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/kitchener-waterloo\/university-waterloo-electronic-waste-1.6835910#:~:text=The%20research%20indicates%20e%2Dwaste,by%202030%2C%20the%20study%20suggests.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBC<\/a>\u00a0states that Canadians generated nearly one million tonnes of e-waste in the year 2020 alone, with the e-waste per person jumping from 8.3 kilograms in 2000 to 25.3 kilograms.\u00a0CBC&#8217;s\u00a0figure projects that the total e-waste per year will reach 1.2 million tonnes by the year 2030.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statcan.gc.ca\/o1\/en\/plus\/8301-trip-through-your-wires-canadian-households-and-electronic-waste\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Statcan<\/a>, only 16 per cent of Canadian households returned an unwanted phone to a supplier. In the same survey, 14 per cent of households had an unwanted computer they needed to dispose of, while cellphones and televisions also had the same percentage.<\/p>\n<p>EcoATM has about 6,500 recycling kiosks across the United States, with the company collecting over 50 million devices to date; diverting about 25 million pounds of e-waste from landfills. This year, the company aims to recycle 7.5 million pounds of e-waste across North America.<\/p>\n<p>The kiosks use what the company calls &#8220;advanced diagnostics and real-world pricing&#8221; to evaluate devices and provide cash for them automatically.<\/p>\n<p>The process begins with the device being placed inside the kiosk, where an automated evaluation and ID verification take place.
