North Side Tex-Mex restaurant Palomar Comida & Cantina appears to undergoing a rebrand. <\/p>\n

A mural emblazoned with the Palomar\u2019s name is still present on one of the buildings at the quaint food-and-drink hub at 12656 West Ave. However, new signage identifies the dining spot as Mezcal Comida & Cantina.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Palomar\u2019s Google account lists the restaurant as temporarily closed, and its Instagram page no longer exists. A Palomar Facebook account is still in operation, but its last post was May 7.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Current reached out to a representative from Palomar or Mezcal Comida & Cantina for more details but got no response by press time.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear whether Mezcal will be run by the same owners. However, the branding on the building appears to be nearly identical to that of the older restaurant. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Palomar opened in 2023, taking over the space that once housed El Bosque Mexican Restaurant, which shut down in 2020 after several decades in business.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Palomar served as a solid Tex-Mex foil to Jason Dady\u2019s Two Bros. BBQ, which neighbors it to the right in the quant complex across from Walker Ranch Park. Clear Light Coffee Co. also has a home in the same center. <\/p>\n

Rebrands have emerged as a popular strategy for San Antonio restaurants looking to draw in more customers. <\/p>\n

Recent examples include the Gusto Group\u2019s rebranding of the Cuishe Cocina Mexicana location at St. Paul Square into La Cantina by Cuishe, Blu Lacy Smokehouse transforming into the Castroville BBQ Company and Santa Diabla Cocina Mexicana undergoing a rebrand into Salsita.\u00a0<\/p>\n
