{"id":233408,"date":"2025-09-17T08:41:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-17T08:41:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/233408\/"},"modified":"2025-09-17T08:41:13","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T08:41:13","slug":"duval-schools-cutting-115-teacher-positions-due-to-falling-enrollment-104-5-wokv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/233408\/","title":{"rendered":"Duval Schools cutting 115 teacher positions due to falling enrollment \u2013 104.5 WOKV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 dbPNdY body-paragraph\">JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 Duval County Public Schools is cutting 115 teaching positions across the district in response to falling enrollment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 dbPNdY body-paragraph\">DCPS outlined the changes in a new email to parents and guardians, announcing that teacher reallocations were beginning this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 dbPNdY body-paragraph\">This school year, DCPS said it saw a 1.9% decrease in student enrollment, largely among its elementary and middle schools. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 dbPNdY body-paragraph\">The district emphasized that teachers would not be losing their jobs during the reallocation process. Instead, many vacant positions would be eliminated, while teachers at schools with lower-than-projected enrollment would be moved to those with higher need, like high schools with growing student populations. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/live-breaking\/\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/live-breaking\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>&gt;&gt;&gt; STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 dbPNdY body-paragraph\">These reallocations are based on the \u201c20-day count,\u201d according to DCPS, which measures actual enrollment at each school at the beginning of each year. The district said the process is required by law and \u201chelps to ensure resources and staff are allocated efficiently based on student needs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 dbPNdY body-paragraph\">Impacted staff are expected to receive notification from their school leadership sometime this week. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 dbPNdY body-paragraph\">&#8220;We are working to support these individuals through the reallocation process and are committed to maintaining student-teacher ratios that support academic success,&#8221; wrote the school district.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 dbPNdY body-paragraph\"><b>[DOWNLOAD: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/mobile-apps\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks<\/b><\/a><b>]<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 dbPNdY body-paragraph\">Lower enrollment, rising costs and an increase in vouchers for charter and private schools cutting into the district\u2019s budget have inspired several other changes recently.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 dbPNdY body-paragraph\">As part of its master facilities plan passed in 2024, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/news\/local\/duval-county\/hundreds-teacher-positions-line-due-budget-cuts-tentative-dcps-budget\/2PLZVN6QHBB2DKFMGC7CN276JM\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/news\/local\/duval-county\/hundreds-teacher-positions-line-due-budget-cuts-tentative-dcps-budget\/2PLZVN6QHBB2DKFMGC7CN276JM\/\">hundreds of teaching positions<\/a> were also cut and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/news\/local\/end-an-era-duval-county-five-historic-elementary-schools-close\/GWFOEYCZW5FRZIM26VIEOTFSCA\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.actionnewsjax.com\/news\/local\/end-an-era-duval-county-five-historic-elementary-schools-close\/GWFOEYCZW5FRZIM26VIEOTFSCA\/\">multiple elementary schools closed their doors<\/a> for good this summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 dbPNdY body-paragraph\">Several more school consolidations are expected in 2026 after being delayed in last year\u2019s decision-making, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>George Washington Carver consolidating with Rufus E.
