Sydney Sweeney<\/a> was not afraid to pull punches when playing real-life Christy Martin<\/a> in the upcoming biopic about the boxer, which wrapped production last November<\/a>. To prepare for the role, Sweeney transformed her body, adding 30 pounds and going up four jean sizes. \u201cBut it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong,\u201d she explained to W Magazine<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cLove Lies Bleeding\u201d star<\/a> Katy O\u2019Brien played opposite Sweeney in the ring and admitted in an interview with Variety<\/a> that she \u201cgot punched quite a few times,\u201d but said, \u201cIt felt good. It was great. It better read well on camera.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEven with [Sweeney\u2019s] extra 30 pounds, I would still have 20 to 30 pounds on her, so it never feels good,\u201d O\u2019Brian did lament when discussing having to hit Sweeney in various scenes. But not only did the \u201cEuphoria\u201d actress not \u201cseem to care very much,\u201d Sweeney told O\u2019Brian, \u201cIf you break my nose, that\u2019s fine.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Brian, meanwhile, was about to start production on Edgar Wright\u2019s production of Stephen King\u2019s \u201cThe Running Man\u201d<\/a> and requested that Sweeney try to keep O\u2019Brian\u2019s nose intact.<\/p>\n

Martin is one of the most groundbreaking figures in women\u2019s boxing<\/a> \u2014\u00a0she was the first and only female boxer, in fact, to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Martin\u2019s story includes the survival of extreme physical abuse from her ex-husband, coach, and manager Jim Martin, who was convicted of attempting to murder her.<\/p>\n
