{"id":234597,"date":"2025-09-17T19:53:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-17T19:53:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/234597\/"},"modified":"2025-09-17T19:53:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T19:53:14","slug":"china-tells-its-tech-companies-they-cant-buy-ai-chips-from-nivida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/234597\/","title":{"rendered":"China tells its tech companies they\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0buy\u00a0AI chips from Nivida\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nvidia just got shut out of the Chinese market\u00a0\u2014\u00a0this time by the Chinese government instead of the US.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">China\u2019s\u00a0internet regulator, the Cyberspace Administration of China, has banned domestic tech companies from buying Nvidia AI chips on Wednesday, as first reported by the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/12adf92d-3e34-428a-8d61-c9169511915c\" target=\"_blank\">Financial Times<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The agency also told tech companies\u00a0including\u00a0ByteDance and Alibaba to stop testing and ordering Nvidia\u2019s RTX Pro 6000D server, a device designed specifically for the market in China.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beijing had previously <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/08\/22\/nvidia-reportedly-halts-production-on-its-h20-ai-chips\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">discouraged\u00a0companies<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0buying these chips in late August, instead promoting alternatives from local manufacturers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This ban will deliver quite a blow to China\u2019s tech ecosystem. While companies like Huawei and Alibaba design AI chips locally, Nvidia is by far the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/06\/02\/nvidia-dominates-the-ai-chip-market-but-theres-rising-competition-.html\" target=\"_blank\">global market leader<\/a> and its chips are considered to be some of the most advanced on the market.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked for comment, Nvidia provided the following statement from Huang at a press conference on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe can only be in service of a market if a country wants us to be,\u201d\u00a0Huang said. \u201cI\u2019m\u00a0disappointed with what I see but they have larger agendas to work out between China and the United States. And\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0patient about it.\u00a0We\u2019ll\u00a0continue to be supportive of the Chinese government and Chinese companies as they wish.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Techcrunch event<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSan Francisco<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t|<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOctober 27-29, 2025\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Trump administration hit\u00a0semiconductor\u00a0companies, including Nvidia, with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/15\/nvidia-h20-chip-exports-hit-with-license-requirement-by-us-government\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">licensing requirements<\/a>\u00a0to sell their AI chips in China in April.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Huang said Nvidia was going to endure <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/05\/28\/nvidia-expects-to-lose-billions-in-revenue-due-to-h20-chip-licensing-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$8 billion of revenue loss<\/a>, in the second quarter alone, by not being able to sell its H20 AI chips in China, on the company\u2019s first-quarter earnings call. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In June,\u00a0Nvidia said that\u00a0it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/13\/nvidia-to-exclude-china-from-its-revenue-and-profit-forecasts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wouldn\u2019t include China<\/a>\u00a0in its future profit and forecast as it was\u00a0essentially locked\u00a0out of the market.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In July, the Trump administration reversed course and gave semiconductor companies the green light to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/07\/16\/nvidias-resumption-of-h20-chip-sales-related-to-rare-earth-element-trade-talks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sell their chips in China<\/a>\u00a0again.
