\n\tBFI Distribution has acquired U.K. & Ireland rights for Kristen Stewart\u2019s directorial debut The Chronology of Water<\/a> following its buzzy festival tour kicking off with its premiere in Cannes Un Certain Regard in May.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHeaps of gratitude to the British Film Institute for helping us bring The Chronology of Water to audiences in the UK. It\u2019s a joy to even be associated with an institution that supports and maintains the thing we love most\u2026 independence and expression via the silver screen,\u201d said Stewart in response to the acquisition.<\/p>\n

\n\tNews of the deal comes ahead of the film\u2019s screening in the Dare section of the BFI Film Festival in October, which Stewart will attend. All three sessions have already sold out. <\/p>\n

\n\tBased on Lidia Yuknavitch\u2019s memoir and adapted for the screen by Stewart,\u00a0The Chronology of Water\u00a0is the portrait of a woman who, after an abusive childhood, escapes into competitive swimming, sexual experimentation, toxic relationships, and addiction before finding her voice through writing.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u00a0The film stars Imogen Poots as Yuknavitch, in what critics have hailed as a revelatory performance. She is joined by Jim Belushi, Thora Birch, Charlie Carrick, Susannah Flood, Kim Gordon, and Tom Sturridge.<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing its presentation in Cannes, the film which is sold internationally by Paris-based Les Films du Losange, was acquired for Benelux (O\u2019Brother), Germany and Austria (Eksystent), Spain (Sideral), Italy (Wanted), Portugal ( Leopardo Filmes), the Former Yugoslavia (MCF), Hungary (Bem Mozi), the Baltic States (Kino Pavasaris), Poland (So Films), Ukraine ( Svoekino) and Romania (Voodoo).<\/p>\n

\n\tBeyond Europe, the film will reach audiences in the CIS via Forma Pro, Brazil through Grupo Esta\u00e7\u00e3o, Central America via Cineplex, South Korea with Pancinema, and Indonesia through PT Falcon.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs previously announced, the film\u2019s U.S. release will be handled by The Forge and French release by Les Films du Losange. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe Chronology of Water\u00a0already won two prizes\u00a0: the Revelation Prize at the Deauville American Film Festival this past weekend and the Grand Prix at Cinefest in Hungary.<\/p>\n

\n\tFurther festival selections include New Horizons in Poland, Melbourne in Australia, Middle Art Festival in the Czech Republic, Helsinki in Finland, Oldenburg in Germany, and Busan in South Korea.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film is produced by Charles Gillibert (CG Cinema International); Yulia Zayceva, Max Pavlov and Svetlana Punte (Forma Pro Films); Ridley Scott, Michael Pruss and Rebecca Feuer (Scott Free); and Kristen Stewart, Maggie McLean and Dylan Meyer (Nevermind Pictures) and Andy Mingo.<\/p>\n
