From a pure production standpoint, Jose Iglesias<\/strong> hasn\u2019t had nearly the impact on the Padres as he had on the Mets\u2019 postseason push a year ago.<\/p>\n

But he did burn his old employer a bit at Petco Park in late July.<\/p>\n

Now he gets his chance to start against the Mets.<\/p>\n

With a left-hander on the mound, Iglesias will get his first start at shortstop since Sept. 9 in a 4:10 p.m. start at Citi Field on Padres.TV.<\/p>\n

Iglesias\u2019 .569 OPS through 106 games is well below what he did for the Mets last year (.830 OPS in 85 games), but he did go 2-for-8 with a double, walk and three runs scored when the Padres swept the Mets in San Diego.<\/p>\n

He scored a run off the bench in the first game, went 2-for-3 in the second and 0-for-4 in the third.<\/p>\n

Iglesias went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs while playing third base for Manny Machado<\/strong> on Sunday. He hadn\u2019t played shortstop since Sept. 9 because Jake Cronenworth<\/strong> had been getting starts at the position against right-handed pitching.<\/p>\n

But Cronenworth is back at second base and in the eight-hole behind Iglesias, Luis Arraez<\/strong> will play first and bat second and Gavin Sheets<\/strong> will get the start at DH over Ryan O\u2019Hearn<\/strong>, who 3-for-31 since reaching five times at Coors Field on Sept. 6.<\/p>\n

Padres RHP Nick Pivetta (13-5, 2.73 ERA)<\/strong><\/p>\n

His 171\u2153 innings are 8\u2153 shy of matching a career-high, when he made 33 starts in 2022 for the Red Sox. Pivetta has allowed two runs or less over his last six starts (1.96 ERA). Pivetta has a 5.23 ERA in 43 innings in his career against the Mets. His last start was throwing five shutout innings in a win in 2021.<\/p>\n

Mets LHP David Peterson (9-5, 3.77 ERA)<\/strong><\/p>\n

He\u2019s failed to complete six innings in any of his last four starts (8.50 ERA). Righties have a .722 OPS this year against Peterson, compared to lefties\u2019 .545 OPS. He has a 3.26 ERA in four games (three starts) against the padres, including beating them last year with 7\u2153 innings of one-run ball.<\/p>\n
