Authorities are investigating after a staffer for U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-San Antonio, died Sunday after catching fire, KSAT reports<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The death of Gonzales\u2019 Uvalde Regional District Director Regina Santos-Aviles, 35, is being looked into by the Uvalde Police Department and the Texas Rangers. However, Uvalde Police Chief Homer Delgado told the TV station there\u2019s no indication of foul play.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, it remains unclear what ignited the blaze that ended Santos-Aviles\u2019 life.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to KSAT, police and paramedics were called to the staffer\u2019s Uvalde home around 9:30 p.m. Saturday after a family member found Santos-Aviles on fire outside.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Paramedics airlifted Santos-Aviles to SAMMC in San Antonio, where she succumbed to her extensive burns the next morning, KSAT reports.<\/p>\n

The exact cause of death remains under investigation, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner\u2019s office.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gonzales\u2019 office did not immediately respond to the Current\u2019s request for comment. The congressman also hasn\u2019t posted on social media about Santos-Aviles\u2019 death.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a statement supplied to KSAT, Gonzales said that he\u2019s \u201cheart-stricken\u201d by the news of his staffer\u2019s death.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cRegina devoted her profession toward making a difference in her community,\u201d Gonzales said. \u201cShe will always be remembered for her passion towards Uvalde and helping the community become a better place.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alt-right online publication Current Revolt<\/a> has described Santos-Aviles\u2019 death as a \u201csuicide,\u201d citing unnamed sources. However, a family member of Santos-Aviles disputed that claim in comments to KSAT.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHer last words were \u2018I don\u2019t want to die,\u201d the family member told the TV station.\u00a0<\/p>\n
