{"id":235620,"date":"2025-09-18T05:32:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T05:32:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/235620\/"},"modified":"2025-09-18T05:32:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T05:32:14","slug":"the-system-is-failing-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/235620\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;The system is failing us&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX \u2014 More than three years after a Valley 19-year-old was shot and killed, her family is still waiting for answers.<\/p>\n<p>Destiny Hernandez was <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc15.com\/news\/region-phoenix-metro\/west-phoenix\/1-dead-1-hurt-in-shooting-near-83rd-avenue-and-broadway-road\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">shot and killed<\/a> inside a home near 83rd Avenue and Broadway Road in July 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Her sisters said they\u2019re determined to keep speaking up for Hernandez.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo make sure that the human cost of the injustice is not forgotten.\u201d Desiree Perez said. &#8220;Destiny deserves justice, and she deserves to have her story told.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just five months after the shooting, Phoenix Police arrested Jvion Gadson-Scott in the case.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite evidence at his apartment and GPS data outlined in court documents, the Maricopa County Attorney\u2019s Office sent the case back to police for further investigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe system is failing us as the victim\u2019s family,\u201d sister Marlene Estrada said.<\/p>\n<p>Phoenix police said Gadson-Scott is still a lead suspect and <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc15.com\/news\/crime\/teens-family-calls-for-justice-in-2022-shooting-as-police-appeal-to-community-for-tips\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told ABC15 last year that they believe more people could be involved<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Police said Gadson-Scott is still a lead suspect.<\/p>\n<p>In the last few years, records show multiple run-ins with the law, even spending some time in prison for weapons violations.<\/p>\n<p>Phoenix police arrested him again on Wednesday for allegedly stealing a car and possessing an illegal firearm last year.<\/p>\n<p>For now, Gadson-Scott is in custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff&#8217;s Office.<\/p>\n<p>As for Hernandez\u2019s murder case, no arrests have been made.<\/p>\n<p>Her sisters, calling on the public once again to help find that missing piece.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know people have information in regard to what happened that night. We just ask for anyone, the public to come forward with that information.
