Bayern Munich brought their A-game on Wednesday as they cruised to a 3-1 win over the Club World Cup champions. While Bayern Munich were expected to be favorites on home soil, this was dominance.

Harry Kane will cement his Bayern legacy this season

The English striker has been solid during his time in Munich. While he has scored plenty of goals, most would argue that he still has not elevated Bayern to the expected heights with his marquee signing. Bayern’s success with Robert Lewandowski was far greater than so far with Kane.

However, it’s early, and Kane seems like a man on a mission this year. The Englishman seems poised to hit full stride this season and collect his first ever Champions League trophy. Could Kane forever cement himself as a Bayern Munich legend with a Ballon d’Or caliber season?

Josip Stanišić’s injury puts Bayern in a real bad spot

The Croatian defender is certainly not Bayern Munich’s best defensive player, but has proven to be a valuable asset over time. Stanišić can play any position in the backline, and has filled in effectively this season and historically when needed. With Itō, Davies, and Guerreiro all injured, this already shaky backline is in some serious trouble. Where is Eric Dier when you need him?

Bayern Munich has the best attack in Europe

With Jamal Musiala sidelined for several months, and the departure of Leroy Sané, many were concerned the offense would see a drop in production, at least early in the season. That has certainly not been the case.

While no one would dare say that the attack is better without Musiala, Serge Gnabry’s blossoming role in the attack has worked out nicely for the Bavarians. Luis Díaz has put up good numbers, but still hasn’t looked fully settled in yet. Harry Kane is playing his best football at the moment and Olise needs no introduction.

Even if Nicolas Jackson isn’t an absolute revelation, this attack is primed to do some serious damage. Even when the attack was seemingly having an off day with some subpar performances, Bayern still scored three.

Nothing new—Bayern owns London clubs

The Club World Cup champions put out a strong lineup in Munich but looked to be on a subpar level compared to Die Roten. Chelsea are trying to put in a title challenge with Arsenal and Liverpool for English champions this season, but if this is the best England has to offer, it would indicate that the big money spent this summer has not translated to quality on the pitch.

While Liverpool is undoubtedly a strong side, the Bundesliga giants seem to always easily dispose of any London-based club.

In the 87th minute, the English commentator suggested that Bayern Munich fans were whistling at Cucurella because of his haircut. Surely, he can’t think that is the reason, right?

Bayern Munich hosted Chelsea in one of the most intriguing matchups on the second round of Matchday 1 in the Champions League’s League Phase.

The Bavarians were able to tough out a rugged 3-1 victory in a match that was not all that pleasing to the eye. Harry Kane’s brace and an own goal from Chelsea paced Bayern Munich. While Chelsea did some good things (including a terrific first half counterattack for a goal), the Londoners did not have enough gas in the tank to keep up with the German powerhouse.

Let’s get into the details, this is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show:

A look at the starting XI.

A rundown of the scoring and substitutions.

Some final thoughts and takeaways on the match.

Support Bavarian Podcast Works on Patreon!

If you like our podcasts and want more, or just want to listen our episodes ad-free, then support us on Patreon!
