Despite the goal difference, Bayern could have avoided some moments in the game, and won with a higher margin. Keeping that in mind, here’s our awards for the day.

This may have been a no-brainer. Cold Palmer showed up to score two (technically, just one) goals, completely calm and composed with full balance. The first goal, a great first time finish pushed Chelsea to play with more confidence. Although the second goal was ruled out, Palmer still put in a great shift and was overall a threat to Bayern’s backline.

Der Kaiser: Konrad Laimer

Laimer has long been a very underrated player for Bayern Munich, and tonight he proved exactly why he shouldn’t be. The Austrian international put his back into his defensive efforts, and was more than helpful for Bayern in the final third. His runs and constant pressure on Chelsea definitely gave Die Rekordmeister the edge that they needed.

Fußballgott: Joshua Kimmich

Queue the doubters. Bayern’s midfield tonight did not have the best game, the Kimmich-Pavlović partnership wasn’t very successful, mostly because it seemed like Pavlović was off his game. Kimmich had a much better game in comparison, and was the solid support system that Bayern needed. Overall, fans can be happy with his performance this time, and can maybe excuse the award in his name again.

The chef at Säbener Straße might be replaced soon, because Gnabry seems to be cooking up a storm on the pitch lately. With mostly consistent performances in all the games he’s played in, it looks like the German international is picking up good form again and might return to the Tottenham-destroying version of himself. Gnabry had a good time up front for Bayern today, with an assist in his name. Every Bayern fan will hope this stays long term, after the ups and downs these last few years.

Meister of the Match: Harry Kane

Scoring a brace for his club tonight, Kane did more than just give Bayern the goal advantage. Having a non-traditional striker is probably one of the best things that has happened to this club in a while, and it gets proven every game that the English international puts effort into. Always tracking back, keeping up the pressure, and providing runs, Kane definitely deserves the award tonight, not only for his goal-scoring stunts. He will be key in Bayern’s upcoming victories in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League.

What do you think of our awards? Harry Kane’s brace and an own goal from Chelsea paced Bayern Munich. While Chelsea did some good things (including a terrific first half counterattack for a goal), the Londoners did not have enough gas in the tank to keep up with the German powerhouse.

Let’s get into the details, this is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show:

A look at the starting XI.

A rundown of the scoring and substitutions.

Some final thoughts and takeaways on the match.

Support Bavarian Podcast Works on Patreon!

If you like our podcasts and want more, or just want to listen our episodes ad-free, then support us on Patreon!
